Job Overview: Seeking an experienced
z/OS Systems Programmer to maintain and upgrade the
IBM z/OS Mainframe Operating System and support users. This is a
systems programming role, not an application development position. The successful candidate will work within a small team of technical system experts responsible for managing, upgrading, and supporting IBM z/OS Mainframe systems.
Key Responsibilities: - Maintain and upgrade the z/OS Operating System and provide support to users.
- Perform z/OS systems programming tasks, including debugging and resolving operating system software issues.
- Support system hardware, including FICON/ESCON connectivity, DASD architecture, cryptographic coprocessors, and virtual tape libraries (VTS).
- Manage z/OS system components such as catalog management, ISPF/SDSF, z/FS filesystems, Unix System Services, RACF, JES parameters, SYS1.PARMLIB, SYS1.PROCLIB members.
- Oversee z/OS SYSPLEX management, including couple dataset definition and coupling facilities.
- Handle dataset, storage, disk, and tape management, including DFDSS, DFSMS, DFHSM, DFRMM, XCF, System Logger, and related tools.
- Assist and educate users and other team members.
- Participate in weekend/off-shift coverage and maintenance windows as needed.
- Perform IBM software installations using ServerPacs, z/OSMF, CBPDO, and related IBM software products.
Required Skills: - z/OS systems software programming experience and expertise.
- Knowledge of FICON/ESCON, DASD architecture, data encryption techniques, and virtual tape libraries (VTS).
- Experience with z/OS catalog management, RACF, JES, SYS1 libraries, SYSPLEX management, and storage administration.
- Strong debugging and problem-solving skills for resolving mainframe operating system issues.
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
- Experience providing user support and training.
- Deep knowledge of z/OS and JES System Programming.
- RACF Administration experience (User IDs, User Groups, Resources, KeyRings, etc.).
Preferred Skills: - Experience with VTAM, TCPIP, OSA, Virtual Interfaces, HiperSockets, and VSWITCH.
- z/OS JES2 and JES3 experience.
- z/VM and Linux on z Systems experience.
- Knowledge of zCX (z/OS Container Extensions).
- Experience supporting z/VM hosting for z/OS and z/VSE Guest systems.
- zVSE mainframe systems programming experience.
- Experience with DS8000 Disk Subsystem, FlashCopy, Tape Library, and RACF Security.
- Familiarity with iSeries is a plus.
Education & Certifications: - Bachelor's degree preferred with 5-7 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent z/OS experience.
Additional Details: - Hybrid position (located in Boulder, CO) with free parking; remote (U.S.) considered for highly qualified candidates.
- Part-time (3 days per week / 24 hours per week) preferred, but full-time may be considered for the right candidate.
