Senior Systems Programmer for an opportunity in Columbia, SC. Candidates must be eligible to earn a low-level US security clearance.
Work arrangement: - Partial onsite: Onsite 3 days/week and as needed
- W2 position; 12 months
- Must be eligible to earn a low-level US security clearance, which requires a thorough background search and US citizenship.
Job description: - Day-to-day operations include supporting the Mainframe z/OS, updating JCL, and monitoring system logs via SDFS.
- Participate in disaster recovery exercises at least quarterly, reviewing the actions required to recover the z/OS and other applications as outlined in the runbook.
- Managing hardware/software support licenses, including submitting purchase requisitions.
- The Senior Systems Programmer should be a self-starter and already know how to maintain and support a mainframe system.

Minimum required work experience: - 6 years of IT work experience, including varied systems programming experience.
Job/class description: - Write or debug programs to maintain and control computer systems software, such as operating systems, networked systems, and database systems. Provide technical and disaster recovery expertise for systems software.
- Diagnose, isolate, and debug software problems and perform problem resolution. Identify issues that the vendor is responsible for and refer those issues appropriately.
- Coordinate installation, testing, and maintenance of systems software. Schedule system downtime in a way that minimizes user impact.
- Review customer requests, security patches, and audit requirements for additions or changes to systems, and evaluate feasibility to determine if/how to handle the request while maintaining an adequate/appropriate overall systems infrastructure. To determine if requested changes are possible, review system capabilities, workflow, and scheduling limitations.
- Cross train in all areas of systems programming in order to efficiently perform on-call rotation.
- Provide technical and disaster recovery support for systems software.
Required knowledge, skills, and abilities: - Strong analytical and logical thinking skills.
- Strong understanding of systems programming, graphical user interfaces, control languages, development, quality assurance, and implementation strategies of systems software.
- Thorough understanding of currently utilized systems programming productivity tools and their use.
- Ability to review and analyze systems software and recommend performance solutions.
- z/OS, JCL, SDSF, Dataset management.
- Strong communication and troubleshooting skills.

- APF knowledge

Work environment: - This team is dedicated to supporting the external customer acting as a secondary portability and disaster recovery site.
- Currently there are 4 team members and one manager.
- The team supports distributed and mainframe systems.
- Hours - Core work hours are 8 AM - 5 PM. Required OT when disaster recovery exercises are performed 12 hours up to 24 hours, including weekends. OT and some weekends and off hours are required. There is a minimum of 4 disaster recovery exercises a year which require extended hours.
Required education/equivalencies: - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or other job-related degree;
- OR, Associates degree in CS, IT, or other job-related degree plus 2 years of work-related experience;
- OR, 4 years job-related work experience (total 10 years without a degree)
