Overview Under the direction of the Membership and Program Director, and consistent with the mission of the YMCA of the Pines, the Yoga instructor is responsible for instructing safe, effective and fun group exercises, as well as, enhancing the quality and growth of the program and retention of the participants of the group fitness programs.
Responsibilities In coordination with the Program Director, the Yoga Instructor shall:
- Must demonstrate the ability to teach a safe, effective and fun yoga class the meets all necessary components and follows all guidelines in the accordance with the YMCA of the USA accepted practices of exercise physiology.
- Yoga instructor must have a valid certification with a minimum of 200 hours of training and / or teaching experience within their field or be certified by YMCA standards.
- Ensure all YMCA of the Pines safety guidelines are followed during program delivery.
- Ensure all program space is reserved and ready for yoga class.
- Provide consistent communication to all yoga participants, including weekly updates.
- Attend all staff meetings, in-house training, demonstrations and special promotions as designated by supervisor.
- Independently manages his/her schedule, and finds coverage for classes when unable to attend.
Qualifications- This position must demonstrate the ability to teach a safe, effective and fun yoga class.
- Must be 21 years of age or older and possess leadership skills that can assist in encouraging and motivating participants.
- Must show enthusiasm, dedication, responsibility and maturity and have the ability to interact and communicate clearly with participants, parents/guardians and staff. Necessary training will be provided.
- Must have a clear criminal background check and safe driving record.
- Must maintain the culture of the YMCA that reinforces, encourages, and promotes values of caring, honesty, respect, responsibility, courage, and inclusion.
WORKING CONDITIONS: - Ability to conduct classes and activities.
- Ability to perform all physical aspects of the position; including leading class, walking, standing, bending, reaching, and lifting.
- Ability to walk, stand, and sit (including on the floor) for long periods of time.
- Must be able to lift and carry supplies weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency.
