Job Description:

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Yard Jockey to join our team. This role is essential for the efficient operation of our distribution and storage facilities. The Yard Jockey will be responsible for moving and positioning reefer trailers at the dock doors, organizing them within the yard, and transferring them between sites as needed. This position requires a DOT certification for tractor-trailer operation and a commitment to safety and efficiency.

Responsibilities:
  • Trailer Movement and Positioning: Safely move and position reefer trailers at the designated dock doors for loading and unloading purposes. Ensure trailers are placed correctly and securely to facilitate smooth operations.
  • Yard Organization: Maintain an organized and efficient yard space. Ensure that trailers are parked in the assigned locations and that the yard remains clean and orderly.
  • Site Transfers: Transport reefer trailers between different sites as required. Ensure that transfers are completed in a timely and efficient manner, adhering to all road safety regulations.
  • Pre- and Post-Trip Inspections: Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the tractor and trailers to ensure they are in good working condition. Report any issues or damages to management immediately.
  • Compliance: Adhere to all DOT regulations and company policies regarding tractor-trailer operation and yard safety. Maintain up-to-date DOT certification and ensure all activities are compliant with transportation laws.
  • Record Keeping: Accurately document all trailer movements, inspections, and maintenance issues. Ensure all records are complete, accurate, and submitted in a timely manner.
  • Communication: Communicate effectively with warehouse staff, dispatchers, and management to ensure that trailer movements align with operational needs and schedules.
  • Flexible: During downtime working in other departments. Other tasks as assigned by management.

Location: This position is based at our main distribution center and may require travel between local sites.

Reporting: This position reports to the Warehouse Manager or Yard Supervisor.

Requirements

  • Must possess a valid DOT certification for tractor-trailer operation.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in a similar role, preferably in a warehouse or distribution center environment.
  • Strong understanding of DOT regulations and safety standards for tractor-trailer operation.
  • Excellent driving and trailer maneuvering skills.
  • Good communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Physical ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and perform manual tasks as needed.
