We are seeking a Workers' Compensation Underwriter to join our team and play a key role in ensuring our clients are properly protected while managing claims and mitigating risks.

About the Role:

The Workers' Compensation Underwriter will primarily focus on evaluating risk, determining appropriate coverage terms, and setting pricing for new and renewal workers' compensation policies. This role is also deeply involved in policy endorsements, managing changes for new worksites, state exposure adjustments, and client site modifications. The underwriter will collaborate with internal teams to ensure clients receive support with claims management, loss prevention, and safety protocols. The ideal candidate will have experience in workers' comp underwriting and risk management within a PEO environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Policy Endorsements: Review and process policy endorsements for new client worksites, state exposure changes, and modifications to existing coverage based on client needs or regulatory updates.
  • Risk Assessment: Evaluate workers' compensation applications, loss runs, and supporting documentation to assess risk exposure, ensuring appropriate classification codes and pricing.
  • Claims Management Support: Assist in managing workers' compensation claims, collaborate with claims teams, and advise clients on best practices to reduce workplace injuries and claims.
  • Safety and Risk Mitigation: Work with clients to implement loss control strategies, advising on workplace safety programs, training, and risk reduction.
  • State-Specific Compliance: Ensure compliance with NCCI guidelines and state-specific regulations in underwriting practices and policy adjustments.
  • Collaboration: Partner with internal teams (Sales, Client Services, Risk Management) to support new business, retention efforts, and accurate policy updates.
  • Renewals & Audits: Participate in the renewal and audit process for existing clients, ensuring proper coverage and compliance.
  • Documentation & Compliance: Maintain detailed and accurate underwriting files for all policies, endorsements, and coverage adjustments.
  • Industry Monitoring: Stay informed on industry trends, regulatory changes, and competitors to ensure competitiveness and compliance.

What You Bring:

  • 3-5 years of workers' compensation underwriting experience (PEO or insurance carrier background preferred)
  • Strong knowledge of NCCI and state-specific classification systems
  • Proficiency in underwriting systems, Excel, and CRM platforms
  • Experience supporting claims management and loss control activities
  • Strong understanding of workplace safety and risk mitigation strategies
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Strong communication skills for cross-functional collaboration

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience in a Professional Employer Organization (PEO)
  • Knowledge of multistate underwriting and high-volume client management
  • Familiarity with claims handling processes and safety initiatives
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Risk Management, or a related field (preferred)

Salary:

$70,000.00 - $85,000.00 (commensurate with experience)
