Position Summary

The Women's Flag Football Head Coach & Transportation Specialist is responsible for scheduling, recruiting, organizing and coaching the College's Varsity Women's Flag Football team and will adhere to the general employee guidelines as specified by the Personnel handbook, the Alabama Community College Conference (ACCC), and the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA). This position will also assist with management of the college passenger vehicle fleet including routine maintenance, safety inspections, and ensuring compliance with Department of Transportation standards.

Salary: Appropriate placement on ACCS Salary Schedule E1, Grade 1: $56,139 - $73,632

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Participate in the supervision of players and prepare them for NJCAA, ACCC, and other competitions.
  2. Recruit the best possible student athletes to Calhoun, preferably in North Alabama.
  3. Report all relevant activities and actions to the athletic director.
  4. Follow the proper chain of command with any relevant issues in the college.
  5. Maintain a proper working relationship with all faculty and staff at Calhoun.
  6. Assist with facilities that are used by the Women's Flag Football team.
  7. Organize practices, game plans and tournaments for the Women's Flag Football team.
  8. Consistently monitor Women's Flag Football equipment to ensure that it is properly used.
  9. Collaborate with the STAR Institute with study hall and tutoring for Women's Flag Football Team members.
  10. Exemplify proper conduct for the student athletes and toward all members of the college and in the community.
  11. Organize the Women's Flag Football program which includes budgeting, camps, recruiting, monitoring player responsibilities, and any other duties assigned related to the Women's Flag Football teams.
  12. Participate in fundraising activities for the Women's Flag Football program and the athletic department.
  13. Provide accurate data and ensure player eligibility in all collegiate leagues and competition and maintenance of player records.
  14. Provide competent instruction in Women's Flag Football.
  15. Provide academic and career advice to students and promote student leadership and enrichment experiences.
  16. Become familiar with institutional policies and procedures as outlined in the College Catalog, and Personnel Handbook; and follow such policies and procedures.
  17. Maintain and increase competency in Women's Flag Football by seeking new knowledge, and improving teaching skills.
  18. Promote positive and productive relationships with service area businesses, industries, and agencies.
  19. Provide advice to the administration on matters pertaining to the Women's Flag Football program and passenger vehicle fleet.
  20. Transport athletes in college vehicles.
  21. Coordinate passenger vehicle routine maintenance plans.
  22. Assist with passenger vehicle trips, as needed.
  23. Routinely inspect passenger vehicles for safety and compliance with DOT requirements.
  24. Create a working relationship with the Athletic Department personnel, Transportation Department personnel, and other employees.
Qualifications
  1. A minimum of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and a minimum of (3) years' experience with Flag Football/Football is required.
  2. A minimum of (3) years' experience coaching at the high school or collegiate level is required.
  3. A valid CDL with air brakes and passenger endorsement or the ability to obtain a CDL with air brakes and passenger endorsement within first six months of employment is required.

Preference will be given to candidates who can demonstrate through their experiences and accomplishments:
  1. A minimum of (1) year of coaching experience in NJCAA athletics;
  2. Ability to be insurable;
  3. Effective oral and written communication skills;
  4. Ability to work independently;
  5. Commitment to all students, including those of diverse cultures and ethnic backgrounds;
  6. Understanding of basic computer skills;
  7. Ability to coordinate and coach a collegiate Varsity Women's Flag Football team;
  8. Knowledge and experience of Flag Football/Football;
  9. Ability to lead, motivate, and supervise student athletes including a willingness to maintain flexibility to meet student's needs;
  10. Knowledge of appropriate safety rules and regulations;
  11. Knowledge of current coaching methods and collegiate eligibility standards;
  12. Ability to work and communicate with a variety of people from diverse backgrounds including students, parents, college employees, and the public;
  13. Ability to handle various situations in a calm and professional manner;
  14. Ability to multi-task and prioritize issues;
  15. Ability to operate in a professional manner at all times;
  16. Ability to operate in a high-pressure situation and respond to issues in a calm manner;
  17. A positive attitude regardless of circumstances at hand;
  18. Confidence in decision making and communication skills.
