THE ROLE
Metropolitan Market is seeking our next Wine, Beer, & Spirits Category Manager. This dynamic role is responsible for product assortment, vendor relationships, pricing, sales, planning, and department profitability. This position will expertly shape the future of our Wine, Beer, & Spirits program.
For those who aspire to grow into this role but may not yet meet the full qualifications for Category Manager, we offer a fast-paced training program starting as an Assistant Category Manager. This training program is designed to provide in-depth guidance and mentorship, enabling you to build on your existing knowledge and develop the skills necessary to advance into the Wine, Beer, & Spirits Category Manager role.

MORE ABOUT WHAT YOU'D DO
The Wine, Beer, & Spirits Category Manager responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Makes or authorizes all item selections within the departments of responsibility.
• Establishes effective working relationships with suppliers and producers, seeking the best cost of goods, terms, and rebates.
• Secures all annual promotional funding for all brands and suppliers for assigned categories, meeting goals and budget.
• Develops retail pricing strategy.
• Effectively performs category management functions: product selection, product placement, and promotion to achieve maximum profitability and sales goals.
• Maintains a clean item file which includes product descriptions, product hierarchy, and vendor assignment.
• Works on proprietary, signature, and private label product development.
• Oversees product training and dissemination of product information. Schedules classes for Wine Stewards and Wine Clerks with manufacturers and vendors.
• Provides leadership for Wine Clerks and Wine Stewards, including product training, motivation, communication, and sharing of the Company vision.
• Leads efforts to reduce shrink and optimize store inventory levels.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
• Candidates for Category Manager will have a minimum of five years of purchasing or category management experience, preferably in a retail food environment and a bachelor's degree in business or a related field.
• Candidates for Assistant Category Manager will have a minimum of five years of successful experience as a manager in retail food and/or adult beverage.
• A passion for wine, beer, and spirits and a deep understanding of the industry.
• Possesses strong knowledge of gross profit, inventory control, and labor percentages; successful experience working with each.
• Proven ability to positively affect sales and manage profit and loss.
• Demonstrated ability to effectively negotiate with vendors and suppliers.
• Possesses creative merchandising and display skills.
• Comfortable with ambiguity and rapidly changing environments.
• Works collaboratively while building trust-based relationships with team members.
• Possesses insatiable curiosity; uses creativity to overcome unexpected challenges.
• Excellent communication skills, oral and written; ability to affect change through positive influence.
• Proficient in MS Office Suite.
• Demonstrates a high-level of self-motivation; takes initiative; problem solves.
• Ability to remain flexible; embraces change as an opportunity for growth.

• Pay range: $78,900 - $98,000
The specific programs and options available to any given team member are dependent upon eligibility factors such as position, date of hire, work location, and terms of applicable collective bargaining agreements.
