Job Summary

Engage with members and provide a welcoming environment. Has a general understanding of fitness equipment and basic Y principles. Instructs individual or group wellness, fitness, trainings and/or related classes. Acts as a liaison and advocate for YMCA. Understands the Health Seeker target market and provides motivational coaching to members participating in ongoing YMCA programs.

Hiring Range

This position has a pay rate of $20.76/hour.

Responsibilities
  • Observes and discusses individual progress with participants.
  • Develops positive relationships with participants and facilitates relationships among participants and members. Provides motivational support and guidance.
  • Increases participant awareness of all healthy lifestyle factors.
  • Encourages member involvement and identifies potential volunteers.
  • Reports equipment problems.
  • Maintains clean and safe environment for members and participants in Fitness Center and other branch spaces.
  • Attends staff meetings and approved trainings as required.
  • Ensures safe and effective workouts. Responds to, and reports, accidents and incidents.
  • Conveys basic information on Y Total Health/Activate America.
  • Tracks, monitors, evaluates and transitions assigned Total Health participants providing motivational support.
  • Accurately maintains related records.
  • May lead Personalized Wellness Plans and/or Youth Fitness.
  • May lead one or more ongoing Y Total Health programs such as Y Personal Fitness, Lose to Win, ACT.

Qualifications
  • Current state approved first aid certification.
  • Current state approved CPR certification.
  • High school education or equivalent preferred. Other applicable education, training, and experience, which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position will be considered.
  • Two or more years' experience teaching or practicing healthy living may be helpful.
  • Ability to lead a class or provide individual service.
  • Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations.
  • Ability to motivate and educate members.
  • Ability to set up, move and store equipment.
  • Prefer knowledge of, and previous experience with, diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, etc.). Ability to speak any language in addition to English may be helpful.
