JOB SUMMARY At the Y, we support members in achieving their personal wellness goals as a part of our commitment to improving the nation's health and well-being. Wellness Center Staff deliver an exceptional member experience in the way we engage with members: SUPPORT members on their personal wellness journey to reach their goals and achieve healthy spirit, mind and body WELCOME members into an environment where they feel respected and physically and emotionally safe. CONNECT members to the people and resources that help them achieve their goals ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Facilitate relationship building so the Y is more than a membership - but also a place to belong. Maintain a safe and clean environment in the wellness center and locker rooms, equipment and Group exercise spaces. Stock resources in each space; enforcing Wellness Center policies. Employ approved wellness strategies that ensure participant's health, safety, and wellbeing as they achieve their wellness goals. Welcome new members; greet and engage members and guests; conduct interviews Maintain a consistent presence in the Wellness Center and conduct frequent walk-throughs to be accessible to members and guests. Conduct wellness center orientations, learning member's wellness goals, and creating and supporting an engagement plan that helps them achieve those goals. The engagement plan should include various Healthy Living Initiatives as they deem appropriate to the member's goals including: Personal Training, Small Group Training, Group Exercise and Mind/Body Offerings; provide appropriate marketing and communication materials. Help members get engaged and comfortable in new programs by introducing them to instructors, manage expectations, and navigate the unfamiliar. Join them for the first class as appropriate. Introduce them to other participants. Work closely with Personal Trainers, Group Exercise Instructors, and Yoga Instructors to provide best collaborative member experience. Collaborate with the Healthy Living Director, and Sales and Service staff to transition new members to connected and committed members. Develop a good understanding of all the Y has to offer, help members build connections with all relevant program staff, and share the many reasons why the Y is So Much More. Support fundraising initiatives. In the event of an injury or emergency, you will serve as safety responder, (responding, reporting, and preventing). Adhere to and enforce safety policies and procedures for the Center and Association. Act according to facility protocol to ensure safety of all staff and children which includes: Adhere to policies related to boundaries with staff and children. Attend required abuse risk management training. Report suspicious and inappropriate behaviors and policy violations. Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements. SKILLS AND TRAINING Demonstrated passion for health and wellness and motivating others in a healthy lifestyle is critical. The ability to demonstrate a strong Servant leadership aptitude and customer service skills is required. A passion for the Y's mission and cause to strengthen the Foundations of Community and for Healthy Living is required. Experience in wellness coaching or wellness environment field preferred. Completed coursework (e.g. 2-year degree) or equivalent experience and education/certification in health and wellness, personal training, or related field is helpful. Training is available to the right person with a passion for the Y, health and wellness, and serving others. Solid office skills, including computer and data entry skills are important in scheduling time and appointments and reporting quality results. Must complete Listen First within the first nine months of employment. CPR/First Aid certifications are required within the first six months of employment (training provided). YMCA Strength and Conditioning Certification is required within the first six months. Demonstrate the desire to serve others and fulfill community needs. Philanthropy: As a charitable organization, the Y depends heavily on financial support of the community. You will be called upon to support fundraising initiatives. Emotional Maturity: How we understand and conduct ourselves impacts our relationships. Demonstrate ability to understand and emotions effectively in all situations. Developing Self and Others: The Y will offer you many opportunities to learn and grow, and you will be expected to actively participate in required meetings and trainings to enhance job performance. You must also retain all required certifications and keep up to date with fitness trends. Safety: Adhere to and enforce safety policies and procedures for the Association. You must be able to respond in a leadership role to a crisis situation as outlined in the Crisis Communication binder. Physical Requirements: You will spend significant time demonstrating exercises and working out alongside members and demonstrating the proper use of equipment. You must move about freely throughout the building. As a safety responder or demonstrating exercises, the ability to crouch, stoop, kneel, move quickly, and/or lift at least 30 pounds will be necessary. Occasional travel between centers and/or in the community may be required. This job description represents the major functions of the job but is not intended to be all inclusive.
