Job Summary / Basic Function:

Job Summary:The Welding Shop helper will support the day-to- day activities of the welding program by ensuring an organized work environment and adequate maintenance of equipment and materials. The welding shop helper's responsibilities include but are not limited to the guaranteeing that welders have the tools and materials required, such as rods and grinding discs, the operation of welding machines, grinders, hammers, beveling machines, torches and magnetic drills. This position requires familiarity with various material such as galvanized, carbon and stainless steel. This is a non-exempt position, and it reports to the Program Director for Welding. Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Maintain attendance to on-site safety meetings
  • Maintain cleanliness of work areas
  • Aid welders when setting up rigs and the movement between work areas
  • Ensuring welders have required materials and tools available
  • Maintaining inventory
  • Loading and unloading trucks
  • Following welder's direction to adjust welding machine temperatures
  • Employing buffers and grinders to clean welds
  • Maintaining knowledge of various types of equipment
  • Oversight of the schedule maintenance of welding and fitting equipment to ensure they are operational
  • Identification of safety risks and hazards and compliance with relevant safety procedures and regulations


Physical Requirements:
The position requires the ability to: lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds regularly and occasionally heavier items with assistance. Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, crouching and reaching. Ability to wear required personal protective equipment, including gloves, safety glasses and protective clothing as needed.

  • Minimum of 6 months of experience in a similar role
  • Proficient knowledge of all aspects of welding

Salary:

$36,500
