Position OverviewThe Weight Room Specialist (WRS) Program Manager assists the Senior Assistant Director of Programs (program director) in administration and programming of the Cardiovascular/Resistance Training (CRT) spaces at Ambler Student Recreation Fitness Center (ASRFC). The Program Manager will complete the work at ASRFC during building hours Monday through Friday and may work various weekend hours.Job Description45% Administration
- Managing and creating the WRS schedules.
- Scheduling and assisting with conducting WRS staff meetings and trainings.
- Managing personnel including schedule conflicts, covering no shows, and discipline issues
- Record keeping.
- Interviewing applicants and training new hires.
- Following, updating, and enforcing policies and procedures including holding WRS's accountable.
- Assisting with inventory (attachments and fitness equipment).
- Evaluating WRS's.
- Implementing risk management as necessary.
- Frequently using Outlook, Microsoft Teams, Microsoft Office such as Word and Excel, SubItUp, Connect2, and Canvas.
45% Communication
- Communicating with the program director, WRS's, applicants, etc.
- Facilitating communication between WRS's and program director.
- Checking the email account.
- Promptly alerting the program director with any concerns or questions.
- Meeting weekly with the program director
5% Programming
- Scheduling and conducting selectorized and spotting training for WRS's and personal trainers.
- Planning and implementing programs and special events.
- Developing new program ideas.
5% Other
- Restocking disposable gloves and nozzles at the CRT desk.
- General troubleshooting.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Excellent written and verbal communication as evidenced by application materials and potentially the interview process. Certified in CPR/AED or become certified within four weeks after being appointed. Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience as a WRS.Experience using cardiovascular and resistance training equipment including selectorized machines, plate loaded machines and free weights as evidenced by application materials.Previous experience working in a recreation center, weight room, health club or gym setting.Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Health or related major.Organized and takes initiative as evidenced by application materials and potentially the interview process. Position RequirementsDuring the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: 1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or be pre-enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or be enrolled in summer session or be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments)Employment Conditions(1) Student employees are not eligible for remote work arrangements unless an exception is approved by the unit leadership and HR.
