Weighmaster Salary $27,850.00 Annually Location Albany, GA Job Type FULL-TIME CLASSIFIED Job Number 2025-21 Department Dougherty County Solid Waste Opening Date 01/17/2025 Closing Date Continuous Description Benefits Questions Description The Dougherty County Solid Waste department is hiring for a Weighmaster. The purpose of this position is to weigh and monitor the incoming solid waste at the landfill; ensure loads are weighed coming in and going out of the landfill. This class works under close to general supervision according to set procedures but determines how or when to complete tasks. Essential Tasks Operates a computerized scale and related equipment to determine charges and generate transaction tickets for waste disposal. Weighs refuse vehicles, enter necessary data into computer; determine if vehicle can enter landfill area; explain weight limits and regulations to users. Collects fees from customers and reconciles monies collected. Screens incoming vehicles for adherence to a variety of landfill regulations including hazardous waste and transport rules and regulations; determine waste classification and direct customer to appropriate; area of the landfill. Maintains work area; perform general housekeeping duties. Prints daily reports. Provides instructions and disposal information to the public. Maintains a variety of records concerning the landfill and weighmaster operations Answers telephone calls and provide requested information to the general public as necessary. Performs related work as assigned. Minimum Qualification High School Diploma or GED equivalent. Six (6) months of administrative or clerical experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Supplemental Information Physical Demands: Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement. Performs medium work that involves walking, standing, stooping, jumping, dancing, stretching, or lifting all of the time and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or exceptional skill, adeptness and speed in the use of the fingers, hands or limbs in tasks involving very close tolerances or limits of accuracy. Unavoidable Hazards (Work Environment): Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken. Involves routine and frequent exposure to: o Bright/dim light; Dusts and pollen. o Extreme heat and/or cold; Wet or humid conditions. o Extreme noise levels, Animals/wildlife. o Vibration; Fumes and/or noxious odors. o Traffic; Moving machinery.
