Job Description: The Waterfront Program Director/STEM Outreach Coordinator will increase participation in SUNY Maritime College's degree, professional, and community programs, especially, but not exclusively, for underrepresented groups including minorities and females. Better engaging youth and exposing them to oppo1tunities available in the maritime industries can launch them into successful maritime careers that will change the course of their lives.
This position reports to the Waterfront Director and works with Department chairs, faculty. students and program directors in Admissions, Community Programs, Aquatics, Athletics, and Housing to enhance and promote existing public programs (Le. Maritime Adventure Splash and Boat Camp, STEM Days. Powerboat classes, high school sailing) and develop new initiatives (i.e. STEM After School Program, school field trips).
Responsibilities: Waterfront/STEM Program Management (50%) - Manage SUNY Maritime's Community Programs from annually scheduling and promoting courses such as our Maritime Adventure Boat and Splash Camp, Limited Masters and Safe Powerboat Handling/New York State Boating Safety classes, after school sailing, US Sailing/US Powerboat instructor courses, and STEM programs.
- Support Student Activities including:
- Intercollegiate Sports: Support the sailing and rowing teams and serve as the Waterfront liaison to the Athletic Department
- Intramural/Recreational Activities: Proactively develop and improve upon the delivery of a strong program of student Waterfront activities (i.e. SUP/kayaks usage, fiberglass or small engine repair class, special events)
- Academic: Facilitate and provide support to faculty utilizing the Waterfront
- Oversee the daily operations of the Waterfront, which includes but is not limited to athletics (sailing and crew team), academic departments, waterfront student activities, hosting collegiate and high school regattas, and Waterfront community programs such as summer camp, sailing and powerboat courses, clinics, and recreational programs
- Coordinate and market SUNY Maritime public programs especially STEM initiatives to the general public, local schools, and other organizations, with an emphasis on underserved populations, in New York City
- Manage and train personnel for the Waterfront including instructors, student assistants, summer staff and volunteers
- Facilitate an active traditional and social media presence with College's Communications office

Strategic Outreach to dramatically increase program size and scope (30%)- Develop new initiatives (Le. STEM After School Program, school field trips) with faculty, staff: and students into a cohesive set of maritime education and training paths for the public, emphasizing disadvantaged youth
- Ensure programs meet the needs of students and organizations that support them by strengthening working relationships with feeder schools and other organizations
- Develop more and stronger partnerships with organizations, schools, and employers who share a commitment to building educational/employment pathways to maritime careers for youth with an emphasis on disadvantaged youth
Support (20%)- Supervise safety and operational policies for the Waterfront
- Assist with execution of programs and special events -as needed
- Ensure facilities and equipment are properly maintained and operated to support current and long-range goals for campus and public programs
- Assist the Waterfront Director and SUNY Maritime College Institutional Advancement staff in obtaining financial support (i.e. grants, donations, sponsorships, program fees) from industry, foundation, government, and individuals to sustain and significantly grow Maritime s STEM/public programming
- Support the success of colleagues and other duties as assigned
Requirements: Required Qualifications:- Bachelor's degree in education. youth development or STEM related field
- 1 - 3 years experience developing, promoting, managing and evaluating academically enriching programs, community programs and/or student activities
- Enthusiastic, outgoing. organized, willing to continually learn and improve
- Competent in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Preferred Qualifications:- Supervisory or managerial experience at a school, camp, community recreation center, collegiate level Waterfront, or similar program
- 3-5 years of experience teaching middle school. high school or vocational training, working in STEM education, career preparation or youth development
- Ability to fundraise (i.e. grant writing)
- Competitive sailing experience at collegiate level or higher, coaching and instructing experience US Sailing Level l, 2 or 3 sailing instructor/coach, Certified Basic Keelboat. Cruising or
- Bareboat Certified Instructor
- US Sailing/US Powerboat Certified Sport or Cruising Powerboat Instructor
Additional Information: Classification: The Waterfront Program Director/STEM Outreach Coordinator is a UUP position. The anticipated salary will be $70,000 to $85,000 with an outstanding benefits package (for more information, please see the Full-Time UUP Benefits Summary ).
