Description Recruitment OPEN until all positions filled. The Cordova Recreation & Park District is seeking reliable and service-oriented candidates to fill multiple Water Aerobics Instructor positions for the summer of 2025.
Typical Schedule: Monday - Thursday, six (6) hours per week.
Summary Description Under direction of the Recreation Supervisor II, Senior Recreation Coordinator, and pool management, oversees a group fitness program (water aerobics) at one of the aquatic centers within the District; prepares workout plans and instructs participants in water aerobics activities; educates patrons on fitness and safety and maintains a safe and enjoyable atmosphere for class participants; and performs related work as required.
Essential Functions The following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.
- Research and prepare workout routines for aerobic classes; instruct and educate participants in water aerobic activities.
- Supervise and motivate participants in pool and deck area.
- Promote and enforce safety procedures; renders care in the most current American Red Cross techniques in water safety, lifeguarding, first aid, and CPR/AED to person in need of assistance.
- Provide customer service and interpersonal skills during public contact and assist with any questions, conflicts, and phone calls.
- Assist in communicating information to coaches, lifeguards, and customers.
- Mediate problems as they arise from participants; communicate all issues, questions, and concerns from staff and customers.
- Attend all trainings when provided.
- Perform related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications The following generally describes the knowledge and ability required to enter the job and/or be learned within a short period of time in order to successfully perform the assigned duties.
Knowledge of: - Basic operations, services, and activities of an aquatics facility.
- Water aerobics and be able to manage large groups of participants in and around the pool.
- Basic water safety practices.
- Basic principles and practices of general pool maintenance functions.
- Principles and practices of public relations.
Ability to: - Communicate tactfully with participants, lifeguards, and staff,
- Address public and customer questions and concerns.
- Respond to emergency situations in a calm and effective manner.
- Administer First Aid, CPR/AED if certified and as needed.
- Be fair and consistent with all families.
- Gather, analyze, and report information.
- Meet deadlines and turn in various types of paperwork in a timely manner and to designated people.
- Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Education and Experience Guidelines - Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Two seasons experience with a similar program.
License or Certificate: Required to hold current certification in Standard First Aid, CPR, AED or within thirty (30) days of employment.
Additional Requirements: Department of Justice (DOJ) background check.
A clear tuberculosis screening is required.

Sick Leave: All part-time and seasonal employees will be issued forty (40) hours of sick leave upon their date of hire and reinstated every one year anniversary to be available for the following twelve months not to exceed a 40 hour cap. Sick leave may not be used until after 90 days of the original hire date.
