Job Summary
Performs basic functions of setting up, serving, clearing, resetting and cleaning dining rooms for residents and guests.Maintains serving areas, dining room and kitchen prep areas in a neat, safe and orderly manner. Interacts with residents ina variety of ways and settings, including social, recreational, diversional and/or vocational ways.
Responsibilities
Lead Wait Staff Functions
Communicates available meal credits to residents in absence of Dining Room Supervisor. Assists with overseeing dining room and kitchen prep areas to ensure they are neat, clean andorderly. Accurately counts and enters meal credits in absence of Dining Room Supervisor.
Assists with training and orientation of waitstaff.
Meal Service
Provides Tray Service as requested. Shines silverware from dishwasher. Performs assigned preparation work (i.e. beverages, salads, dessert, etc.) Maintains reservation lob by receiving calls from residents. Prepares dining rooms for meals, i.e., arranges manus, folds napkins, fills water glasses and breadbaskets, etc. Takes menu orders from residents and guests in a customer service-focused manner. Accurately communicates food orders to Cooks in a timely fashion. Coordinates with cooks to ensure proper food temperature, presentation and portion size for thecustomer. Serves and clears meals in a friendly, professional and timely manner, using proper serving etiquette. Is alert to customer needs and preferences. Busses tables in accordance with established standards. Resets tables promptly and neatly, ensuring a clean and attractive setting.
Catering/Special Events/Buffets
In the absence of the Dining Room Supervisor, meets with customers to plan special/catered eventsand communicates with the Director. Assists with decorations, costumes, uniforms, etc., consistent with the event, i.e., celebrations,seasonal, theme events, etc. Sets up and serves special events, ensuring high quality/elegant standards are followed. Tears down functions when over and returns equipment, supplies, etc. to designated storage areas. Cleans, vacuums and otherwise restores areas to standard setup.
Sanitation and Cleaning Responsibilities
Exhibits knowledge of Mon County Health department proper food handling methods and sanitationprocedures. Always keeps work area neat, clean and orderly. Consistently takes all required sanitation precautions, such as routinely washing hands, etc. Always follows professional standards with regard to personal hygiene and protective attire (gloves,hair covering, apron, uniform, shoes, socks and stockings). Completes regular cleaning duties in kitchen, dining rooms, pantry and storage areas as assignedand within deadlines established. Maintains dining room in a neat, clean, safe and orderly manner. Operates, maintains and cleans kitchen equipment, per supervisor instruction.
Performs Other Duties as Required
Attends mandatory in-services, staff meetings, and actively participates in self-education withinestablished timeframes. Maintains required job knowledge. Identifies appropriate cases of abuse and neglect and demonstrates knowledge of mandatoryreporting requirements.
Attends a minimum of 4 staff meetings per year. Renews certifications in a timely manner. Performs other duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Medium Work: Frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 lbs with a maximum lifting of 50 lbs.
Knowledge of commercial kitchen practices and procedures and/or oneyear prior cook experience preferred. Must be able to read, write, speak and understand english. Ability to understand VHPand department policies and procedures and operate departmental equipment ability obtained through on- the-job training.Effective interpersonal communication skills in order to maintain cooperative work relationships. Must be able to follow oraland written instructions.
