Our client, a well-respected regional bank with deep roots in the community and a strong reputation for service and stability, is seeking a Senior Commercial Credit Underwriter to join their growing credit team. This is an excellent opportunity for a seasoned credit professional to contribute to a high-performing group and work on a variety of complex C&I and CRE lending relationships.

About the Role:

As a Senior Commercial Credit Underwriter, you'll play a key role in assessing credit risk and supporting the bank's commercial lending efforts. You will work closely with relationship managers and credit officers to evaluate new and existing loan requests, with a primary focus on Commercial & Industrial (C&I) and Commercial Real Estate (CRE) credits.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyze and underwrite new and existing C&I and CRE loan requests, including term loans, lines of credit, owner-occupied and investment real estate.
  • Prepare comprehensive credit memos outlining financial analysis, collateral evaluation, risk rating, and credit structure recommendations.
  • Conduct detailed financial statement and cash flow analysis, including ratio analysis, covenant compliance, and industry comparisons.
  • Participate in borrower meetings and site visits, as needed, to gain deeper insight into business operations and risk factors.
  • Collaborate with relationship managers, portfolio managers, and senior credit officers to structure deals that meet the client's needs while aligning with the bank's risk appetite.
  • Monitor existing credit relationships and identify potential risk issues or deterioration in borrower performance.
  • Ensure compliance with bank credit policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Serve as a mentor to junior underwriters and credit analysts, offering guidance and support on underwriting best practices.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in commercial credit underwriting, with a focus on C&I and CRE loan types.
  • Strong knowledge of credit analysis, loan structuring, financial statement review, and risk rating methodology.
  • Familiarity with regional and local market dynamics in Fairfield County is a plus.
