VOLUNTEER

GENERAL PURPOSE:
Volunteers collaborate with an assigned Program Leader that works with a group of students, student to staff ratio is contingent upon CDC guidelines. This is a volunteer position that is in-person.
Volunteers act as positive adult role models, coaches, and mentors. Volunteers must have a genuine interest in the growth, development, and provision of a safe and nurturing environment for the students they volunteer with. A volunteer's ability to establish authority and connections through leadership, communication, and most importantly patience will be required in giving our students the stability and nurturing atmosphere they need to succeed. Ensuring that Think Together students reach their potential takes a tremendous amount of hard work, flexibility, and commitment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Collaborate with an assigned Program Leader that works with a group of students (In-person setting), maintaining high standards for behavior and safety by implementing the Think Together four core agreements:
1. Be safe
2. Be respectful
3. Be responsible
4. Have fun

• Serve as a positive adult role model for children in the program through appropriate dress, speech, and attitude.

• Create an engaging environment that fosters a sense of belonging that kids want to be in.

• Support students in making positive behavior choices

• Identify student needs and communicate with Program Leader and Site Coordinator.

• Participate in staff development activities (Bonus at-will opportunity).

IN-PERSON LEARNING

• Provide homework assistance and academic enrichment materials provided by the program.

• Collaborate directly with a Program Leader that has a group of 20-25 students in a classroom setting, implementing classroom strategies.

• Support with daily snack preparation, serving and clean up.

• Support with setting up, break down, and ongoing maintenance to keep the school or community site clean and orderly.

• Maintain student safety by supporting the Program Leader.

• Provide learning support and engaging student experiences, using program design and curricular models through Think Togethers strategic partnerships.

• Create and utilize engagement strategies to create positivity, encouragement and excitement for learning

• Work collaboratively with team members.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Arrives punctually in order to meet volunteer expectations. Communicate with Site Coordinator volunteer availability.

• We recommend you have the knowledge to utilize various digital learning platforms.

• Maintains close communication with Site Coordinator regarding volunteer schedule and potential absences.

• Comply with organization and site policies and follow procedures.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

• High School Diploma or G.E.D.

• Ability to speak and write Standard English appropriate in a public-school setting.

• Must pass LiveScan (criminal background check via fingerprinting) DOJ Clearance

• Provide negative TB Test dated within the last 3 years

• Excellent communication skills (Written and Verbal)

• Support our English-learner population by being bi-literate (Spanish preferred)

How much noise is typical for the work environment of this volunteer opportunity?

• Moderate noise (examples: typical school noise with children at play)

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• Some of the physical demands of the volunteer opportunity includes standing, walking, sitting, using hands and arms for reaching and handling, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, talking and hearing. This job may also require that weight be lifted or anywhere from 10 to 25 pounds.

VISION REQUIREMENTS:

• Close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less)

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

• Ability to speak or write a language (Spanish, Vietnamese) other than English is helpful.
