General Description JOIN OUR TEAM AS A SUMMER CAMP COUNSELOR-IN-TRAINING. Welcome to VIP - Volunteer in Pasco.
Thank you for your interest in becoming a volunteer with the Pasco County Board of County Commissioners and giving back to your community. In Pasco County, we strive to provide excellent public services that meet the needs of our citizens and enhance the quality of live for our residents and visitors.
Assistance in the organization and implementation of summer recreational events and activities with a group of children at a County recreation center or school.

Essential Job Functions- Will be assigned to a group, area, or leader to assist in the planning and instruction of camp activities and events for children between the ages of 5-13.
- Will gather materials, set up equipment, lead certain activities, and assist with facility maintenance and cleanup.
- Informs staff of any behavior problems between campers, but never disciplines campers.
- Maintains a positive attitude toward campers, staff, peers, and adults.
- Informs staff of any safety problems or damaged equipment.
- Performs related work as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities- CITs always lead by example. Be a positive role model for all campers.
- CITs are not expected to be in charge of campers unless it is an emergency situation.
- CITs should speak with a good tone. Never yell at or scold campers; inform the group leader of all discipline problems.
- CITs must always stay with their assigned group leader; always inform the group leader when you leave for the day or need a break.
- CITs must maintain fairness and good sportsmanship between campers in all activities.
- CITs must always use appropriate language; cursing is not allowed.
Space is limited in this program. Individuals will be selected based on the following criteria:
- All paperwork is completed accurately and completely.
- Amount of experience with children and recreation activities.
- School report card and extracurricular involvement.
- Demonstration of maturity, enthusiasm, and a desire to help.
Minimum Requirements Must be 13 years of age (on or before camp begins) or older and have some experience working with children and some knowledge of various recreation activities. Must be responsible and interested in having fun.
Temporary Position - benefits not available. Not eligible for Veterans' Preference in accordance with FS 295.07.
