Hours are variable (as assigned)

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

High school education or GED equivalent. A minimum of one year of experience in animal welfare and one year of experience in volunteer management is preferred. Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Windows, word processing and spreadsheet computer software. Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, and to establish and maintain professional working relationships with all staff, volunteers, and members of the public. Ability to prioritize work efforts and multitask with strong attention to detail. Must have and maintain a valid Driver's License with an acceptable driving record.

Ability to safely lift animals and equipment up to and possibly exceeding 100 pounds. Ability to work with dogs, onsite and offsite, and to recognize unusual or threatening conditions and take appropriate action. Ability to assist in feeding and exercising the dogs as needed.

JOB DUTIES:

Under the direction of the Kennel Administrator, is responsible for the daily supervision and management of the Clermont County Kennel's volunteer program. Oversee all aspects of the volunteer program including communications, training and development, event planning, and the scheduling/placement of volunteers. Duties include, but are not limited to, engagement and recruitment of volunteers, conducting volunteer orientation, training and mentorship, organizing and assigning tasks and responsibilities to volunteers, recognizing/promoting volunteer activities, and retention of volunteers. Maintain communication with volunteers and address volunteer concerns via phone, e-mail or in-person. Ensure that all volunteers understand and adhere to the volunteer policy and safety processes and procedures.

Serve as liaison between volunteers, staff members, and event partners. Schedule group volunteer events and coordinate on-site and off-site special events to promote adoption. Promote volunteer opportunities to the community. Provide presentations to the public as needed. Diligently works with other organizations and the general public to promote foster and adoption of dogs to minimize euthanasia.

Develop documents, reports, and materials as needed for the volunteer program. Create and maintain a master volunteer log and related volunteer records in records management system. Coordinate and document donations of goods/supplies. Assist with public relations and administrative tasks as needed. Serve as back-up to Administrative Assistant and receptionist when needed. Complete all reports accurately and in a timely manner. Receives messages and provides general information and transmit messages to appropriate personnel. Performs clerical functions and operates office equipment as needed.

Works alone or with other persons in short- or long-term projects to resolve problems or conflicts in Kennel operations or to complete assigned projects. Participates in cross-training and maintains proficiency in area of cross-training as necessary. New and other related duties as assigned. Works aggressively to reduce or eliminate safety/risk concerns in current position or work location.
