The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for conducting volunteer service activities including recruiting volunteers, volunteer recognition activities, volunteer interviewing, training, and support. The Volunteer Coordinator works closely with Social Workers to assign volunteers to patients where needed for companionship, socialization and caregiver respite. The Volunteer Coordinator also assists the Director of Volunteer Services in assigning volunteers to other agency departments when requested. This opening is based at the Alive Murfreesboro office, and will require travel to the Alive Franklin office 2-3 times/month.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Responds to inquiry calls requesting information about volunteer opportunities.
2. Interviews, orients, assigns, and supervises office and patient care volunteers.
3. Collaborates with other Volunteer Coordinators in assigning patient care volunteers when requested and completes required documentation related to the assignment process and statistics.
4. Conducts follow-up calls to patient care volunteers as requested and documents such calls.
5. Assists Director of Volunteer Services in maintaining volunteer personnel files, including compliance of annual competency reviews and evaluations.
6. Assists with facilitating volunteer events, trainings and meetings including new volunteer orientation.
7. Assists Director of Volunteer Services in the collection of data for monthly statistics.
8. Participates in interdisciplinary team meetings to remain abreast of current patients; notifies interdisciplinary team members of updated information or volunteer contact with patient and educates staff on appropriate utilization of volunteers.
9. Updates patient medical record with volunteer visit notes, orders and care plan updates.
10. Maintains accuracy of volunteer information utilizing online database, updating information as needed.
11. Assists Director of Volunteer Services in assigning volunteers for Grief Services, Outreach, Development and other departments throughout the agency as requested.
12. Organizes and facilitates Volunteer Recruitment events.
13. Other duties may also be assigned.
COMPUTER SKILLS
Strong computer skills necessary to maintain accurate documentation in medical records as well as knowledge of online database
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Directly supervises volunteers. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. No supervision of agency employees is required.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Associates degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Volunteer supervisory experience preferred.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
Previous experience working with volunteers. Good communication and organizational skills. Reliable transportation and a valid driver's license. Ability to work with interdisciplinary team. Personal maturity and the ability to respond calmly and effectively to stressful situations. Sensitive to the issues related to working with and rewarding unpaid staff.
