Volunteer Coordinator - Part-Time
The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for overseeing a successful volunteer program at Alliance For Children with oversight and responsibility for all agency volunteer guidance and needs. This position serves as the main point of contact and responsible party for volunteer coordination for programmatic department needs, client affinity programs, special events, and Kids Crew programs, and all other agency volunteer needs.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in social work or related field
- One year experience in social services field and/or non-profit organization required
- Experience managing volunteers strongly preferred
- Excellent and open communication skills; works well with a variety of different people and personalities, can interact with various groups, and help drive results cross-functionally.
- Strong communication and networking skills; be a team player.
- Strong organizational skills; self-starter.
- Must have valid driver's license and proof of liability insurance.
- Must successfully complete criminal and civil background checks.
- Able to maintain confidentiality and present in a positive, professional manner at all times.
- Able to maintain composure and professionalism under pressure of deadlines.
- Regular and reliable attendance.

Physical Requirements:
Able to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, kneel and twist on an intermittent and sometimes continuous basis. Able to grasp, push, pull objects and reach overhead. Able to operate a telephone and computer. Able to lift up to 20 lbs. Moderate independent travel by private auto required.
Job Duties/Essential Functions :
- Attend community meetings/groups/fairs/other events regarding volunteer recruitment and retention. This also includes agency representation when appropriate. Attend community fairs or other events for the purpose of recruiting volunteers.
- Responsible for solicitation, understanding and execution of all agency volunteer needs.
- Maintain ongoing communication with volunteers to help them feel appreciated and connected to AFC.
- Work with AFC's PR and Marketing to highlight the good work of volunteers.
- Communication and collaboration with other agency staff will serve as key factors in regard to fulfilling volunteer requests and responsibilities to include: volunteer assignments, specifications of requested duties, timeframes, and identifying areas for growth and improvement.
- Planning and executing volunteer appreciation events.
- Maintain ongoing relationships with volunteers to help them feel appreciated and connected to the agency's mission.
- Work with AFC's PR/Marketing Coordinator to highlight the good work of volunteers through a variety of outlets.
- Attends all volunteer facing events, to include client affinity projects/programs, major fundraising events, and others as requested. This includes pre- and post-event activities.
- Participate alongside volunteers in their duties as opportunities allow.
- Coordinate and maintain volunteer applications and background check forms for individuals interested in sharing their time and talents with the agency. This may include waivers and vendor agreement forms when necessary/appropriate.
- Manage the background check process by submitting confidential information to the DFPS system, communicating sensitive information with integrity, and following protocol for reporting.
- Attend Advancement Team Meetings
- Responsible for reporting checkpoints and milestones as volunteers complete policies/requirements, ensuring appropriate participation in desired programs.
- Conduct in-person meetings to get better acquainted with potential volunteers and help identify opportunities for best placement within the agency, which could include both direct and in-direct client interaction.
- Responsible for a smooth and thorough transition of volunteer communication with staff members responsible for the daily/specific need for which the volunteer was requested.
- Schedule potential or new volunteers to attend volunteer orientation and Stewards of Children training.
- Assist in volunteer trainings specific to special events, client affinity programs, and any additional agency needs that would benefit from volunteer assistance to ensure thorough communication and clarity of volunteer duties. Specific to special events and client affinity programs, will serve as the point of contact for volunteers.
- Serve as liaison between Cook Children's Medical Center Kids Crew program and Alliance
- Perform other related duties as requested by immediate supervisor or Chief Executive Officer.

- Schedule and lead quarterly or as-needed Kids Crew trainings for new volunteers.
- Communicate available volunteer opportunities to screened group.
- Share updates or changes to Cook Children's policies that affect Kids Crew and its volunteers.
