Title: Volunteer Services Coordinator

Job Summary To advance the mission and programs of the Animal Rescue League of Iowa (ARL) through volunteer recruitment, onboarding, training, and retention initiatives, thereby supporting the care and safety of animals and staff.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities - Onboard, supervise, encourage, and provide feedback to volunteers at assigned location(s).
- Process volunteer applications and collaborate with the Talent Acquisition Specialist as part of the screening process.
- Facilitate volunteer onboarding and orientation sessions at assigned location(s).
- Maintain database of volunteers and ensure timely reporting.
- Research and implement ongoing communication, recognition, and appreciation initiatives for volunteers to provide recommendations for a well-rounded appreciation program.
- Maintain an ongoing communication plan to ensure timely, effective, and consistent communication with volunteers.
- Coordinate volunteer operations with other departments.
- Provide education and training to ARL departments in support of Volunteer Services.
- Provide Humane Education for interested groups to learn more about animal shelters and the Animal Rescue League of Iowa.
- Coordinate group volunteers and ensure a positive experience.
- Responsible for creating schedules, assigning tasks, recording absences, managing breaks for volunteers.
- Conduct tours for outside groups of the ARL in alignment with providing human education to all ages.
- Cultivate positive relations through professional, courteous, and educational interactions while actively promoting our mission, services, programs, and events.
- Perform any and all other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Duties:Education and/or Experience - 2 years or more of work experience with volunteer coordinator or in a customer service role, required.
- Bachelor's degree in business, communication, or a related field, preferred.
- Prior experience coordinating volunteer programs and training, preferred.
Qualifications - Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record, required.
- Must be able to function in a fast-paced and stressful environment.
- Must possess excellent customer service, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills and be able to resolve conflict effectively.
- Ability to performance basic mathematical skills.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
Physical Requirements / Working Conditions - Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to work outdoors in high heat or cold environment on occasion.
- Work may expose employee to odors, diseases of animals that are possibly contagious, bites, scratches, animal waste, and moderate noise level.
- Must be able to stand and sit for long periods of time.
Primarily Sunday-Thursday, Days. Occasional evenings.
