DescriptionSupport Breakthrough New York in selecting the Class of 2035. Breakthrough New York (BTNY) Admissions Interview Days will take place on
Saturday, April 12th and Saturday, April 26th. Interview Days are the last stage of BTNY's admissions process, where prospective 6th-grade students and their guardian(s) participate in 60-minute interviews with BTNY staff and volunteers. Our interview process aims to provide BTNY's Admissions Team with a deeper understanding of the motivations, knowledge, and commitment of both students and families to ultimately determine if they are a good fit for BTNY's 10-year program, and vice versa.
Additionally, interview days offer an opportunity for prospective students and their guardians to ask questions and meet and engage with our BTNY community including staff members, board members, and current and former BTNY students and families.
Volunteers will play a crucial part in supporting our full-time staff in interviewing prospective students and families as well as making sure the days run smoothly.Interview Days are scheduled as follows: - Saturday, April 12th (Manhattan): The Town School at 540 E 76th St, New York, NY 10021
- Saturday, April 26th (Bronx): All Hallows High School at 111 E 164th St, Bronx, NY 10452
On both days, Interviewer Volunteers have the option to choose from either
one or both shifts:
- Morning Shifts: 9:30 am to 1:00 pm
- Afternoon Shifts: 1:30 pm to 4:00 pm
Role OverviewVolunteer Roles & Responsibilities - Volunteer Interviewers:
- Volunteer interviewers will be paired with a BTNY staff member to conduct interviews with student applicants and their guardians
- BTNY will train all volunteers in advance and provide an interview guide of questions to ask, as well as a rubric with which to evaluate responses
- Each shift will include two rounds of interviews with student applicants and their families
- General Interview Day Support Volunteers:
- Volunteers may also sign-up to provide general logistical support during Interview Days with non-interview tasks such as set-up/clean-up, greeting students and families, taking attendance, etc.
