JOB TITLE: Volleyball Head Coach-High School

PRIMARY PURPOSE:
The High School Volleyball Head Coach is responsible for organizing and implementing the program for the assigned sport in keeping with the District goals, philosophy, policies and procedures. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: - Cooperates with the Director of Athletics and the High School Athletic Program and Facilities Coordinator in organizing and implementing the assigned sport within the overall high school athletic program.
- Provides necessary information for team rosters, eligibility forms and injury lists for assign teams.
- Coordinates game schedules, travel plans and use of facilities for the assigned teams.
- Complies with the established method of inventorying and care for equipment.
- Provides input for budget planning as requested and requisitions supplies as needed.
- Assists with care of the athletic facilities.
- Keep principal and athletic coordinator updated on schedule changes.
- Develops and/or maintains an effective parental communication system.
- Coordinates the work of the assistant coaches.
- Encourages expression of ideas from assistant coaches.
- Delegates specific assignments to assistant coaches for work with teams, care of equipment and facilities and make travel arrangements.
- Plans with the assistant coaches for development of skills, strategies and rule comprehension for the assigned sport.
- Promotes appreciation of team play, individual accomplishment, physical health, competition and good sportsmanship.
- Assures adherence to University Interscholastic League regulation rules and policies.
- Assures that team members are properly supervised during all games, practices, travel and related activities.
- Assures that coaches work with the Head Athletic Trainer in rehabilitating injured team members.
- Organizes the instruction of the assigned sport.
- Plans long-range and short-term goals for the program and for the athletes.
- Reviews and updates the athletic program as needed.
- Encourages high academic standards by regularly reviewing athletes 'grades.
- Develops basic and advanced skills.
- Teaches strategies and techniques.
- Teaches rules of the sport.
- Develops concerns for physical conditioning.
- Develops concern for safety.
- Helps athletes develop a positive self-image.
- Encourages respect for teamwork.
- Encourages fair competition and sportsmanship.
- Keeps a positive and open relationship with middle school coaches.
- Demonstrates appropriate standards for citizenship, sportsmanship and respect for healthful living.
- Remains current in the areas of competitive sports through membership in professional organizations and current literature, as well as clinics and workshops.
WORKING/SPECIAL CONDITIONS: Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent district wide and statewide travel; frequent prolonged and irregular hours; outdoor exposure to sun and heat.
