We are seeking a
VoIP Phone Technician to install, configure, and maintain VoIP phone systems and infrastructure. This role requires a combination of networking expertise, troubleshooting skills, and hands-on installation experience. The ideal candidate will ensure high-quality voice communications, system reliability, and optimal network performance for clients.
Primary Responsibilities: - Installation & Configuration:
- Deploy and configure VoIP phone systems, including PBX, SIP trunks, and handsets.
- Set up call routing, voicemail, IVR systems, and extensions per client requirements.
- Integrate VoIP systems with existing network infrastructure.
- Troubleshooting & Maintenance:
- Diagnose and resolve VoIP-related issues, including call quality, latency, and connectivity problems.
- Perform firmware updates, security patches, and routine system maintenance.
- Monitor system performance and implement optimizations for call quality.
- Network & Security:
- Configure firewalls, QoS settings, and VLANs to prioritize VoIP traffic.
- Secure VoIP systems against potential threats such as SIP attacks and toll fraud.
- Work with IT teams to ensure network stability and reliability for VoIP services.
- Customer Support & Documentation:
- Provide technical support to end users, addressing VoIP-related concerns and training them on system features.
- Document configurations, troubleshooting steps, and best practices for future reference.
- Coordinate with vendors and service providers for troubleshooting and system enhancements.
- Additional Responsibilities:
- Perform on-site and remote service calls to resolve VoIP-related technical issues.
- Train customers on system usage and provide ongoing support as needed.
- Maintain accurate technical documentation and update service logs in ticketing systems.
- Assist with IT infrastructure setup, including structured cabling and network optimization.
- Terminate and test Cat6, coax, and other types of wiring in both new and existing buildings.
- Mount and install TVs, monitors, and keyboard systems, ensuring all equipment is secure and properly aligned.
- Set up server racks and ensure network and telecommunications infrastructure operates efficiently.
Required Skills & Qualifications: - Technical Skills:
- Strong understanding of VoIP protocols (SIP, RTP, SRTP).
- Experience with VoIP platforms such as Asterisk, FreePBX, 3CX, Cisco Call Manager, Avaya, or Mitel.
- Knowledge of networking principles, including TCP/IP, VLANs, QoS, NAT, and firewall rules.
- Experience configuring and troubleshooting SIP trunks and PBX systems.
- Familiarity with cloud-based VoIP providers (RingCentral, Zoom Phone, 8x8, etc.).
- Problem-Solving & Security:
- Ability to diagnose and resolve VoIP-related issues quickly.
- Understanding of VoIP security best practices and threat mitigation.
- Communication & Documentation:
- Excellent communication skills for interacting with customers and collaborating with team members.
- Ability to read and interpret technical documentation and blueprints.
- Maintain organized records of system configurations, service calls, and network settings.
Preferred Qualifications: - Certifications such as CCNA Voice, CompTIA Network+, or VoIP-specific certifications.
- Experience with VoIP monitoring tools and packet analysis (Wireshark).
- Familiarity with Linux-based systems or tools like ConnectWise.
- Background in structured cabling and IT infrastructure setup.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements: - Work is conducted at client locations, data centers, and remotely.
- Ability to work on-call or after-hours for emergency VoIP support.
- Must be comfortable standing for extended periods, climbing ladders, and using power tools for installations.
- Lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds may be required.
