Job Description - Provide comprehensive administrative support to ensure VMware and other virtualization environment compliance with DoD, Air Force, and AFTAC policies and applicable accreditation standards for hardware/software configuration and approval requirements throughout the lifecycle of the system/software. Key Responsibilities Deploy, configure, and optimize virtualized solutions on public, private, and hybrid clouds. Assess and make recommendations to improve HA/DR configuration of VMware Clusters. Provide administration support for containerization technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, and Rancher. Monitor, plan, and coordinate the distribution of patches and upgrades via scheduled outages. Execute system backups and verification of data integrity with current backup software and VMware snapshots. Address shortcomings of Cyber compliance findings; complete STIG checklists, create and maintain test plans and hardware inventory documentation. Remediate findings and vulnerabilities and complete Plan of Action and Milestones (POAM) documentation as necessary. Optimize virtualization performance using VMware, Windows, and Linux tools, and recommend corrective actions to any real and perceived performance problems. Maintain virtualization by the daily monitoring and reporting of any hardware or software faults. Address virtualization reporting by opening internal service tickets and remediate faults. Provide technical support for VMware hosted Linux, Microsoft Windows, Solaris, and VDI. Enable auditing of vSphere and support hardware to centralized log server. Provide support to the IT manager in developing and coordinating future IT infrastructure replacement plans and shall include hardware tech refreshes and software upgrades. Support large-scale projects such as the movement of data storage, physical-to-virtual (P2V) server conversions. Perform virtual server administration to include VM upgrades such as increasing RAM or local storage. Perform other Enterprise functions such as metadata backups and snapshots, Role Based Access Control (RBAC) (delegation of rights), VM protection policies, High Availability (HA) and adding/configure datastores (CIFS, NFS, iSCSI, FCP). Perform strategic proactive space & growth management, HA & scalability improvements, and backup & recovery improvements. Using VMware technologies, provide AFTAC with working solutions utilizing Blades, rack mounted servers, storage, and networking. Offer solutions with Virtual Distributed Switches, vMotion/svMotion, SRM, HA, load balancing, and evaluate, research, and strategically improve current DR solutions. Manage and maintain large Cisco UCS and Nutanix environments, converged and hyper-converged server platforms such as FlexPods, or other appliances and platforms. Work closely with implementation teams to ensure implementation meets design. Provide documentation for newly designed systems, and design system capacity plan. Determine gaps in existing infrastructure and ways to mitigate these gaps. Required Qualifications: Top Secret Clearance A minimum of five (5) years of experience working as a VMware systems administrator. Strong knowledge of VMware hosted Linux, Microsoft Windows, Solaris, and VDI. VMware Certified Professional - Data Center Virtualization (VCP-DCV) IAT Level 2 Desired Qualifications: VMware Certified Advanced Professional - DCV (VCAP-DCV) VMware Certified Design Expert - DCV (VCDX-DCV)
