DescriptionThe Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Swarthmore College invites applications for a full-time one-year appointment at the level of Visiting Assistant Professor to begin in Fall 2025. The successful candidate will have research interests in the field of organic chemistry, broadly defined. The candidate will participate in the organic chemistry lecture and laboratory curricula and potentially other areas as opportunity allows. Opportunities for directing undergraduate research are available.

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry has 8.5 permanent tenure lines, an Academic Support Coordinator, a Lecturer, four lab instructors, and an instrument specialist. The Department graduates between 10 and 20 majors in Chemistry and Biochemistry as well as a special major in Chemistry Education. Classes for majors are small, students are motivated, and the opportunities for collaboration with colleagues and students are real and abundant. Qualifications

The successful candidate will have a PhD in organic chemistry, or a closely related field, in hand by August 2025. Previous teaching experience is highly valued.

The strongest candidates will be expected to demonstrate a commitment to creative teaching and an active research program that speaks to and motivates undergraduates from diverse backgrounds.
