DESCRIPTION:
The VP, Tax and Accounting Manager heads the Tax team and is part of our client's Executive Team, working alongside the CEO, President & Department Heads to plan for growth, profitability, & technology/process improvements.
The VP, Tax and Accounting manager oversees the work of & works alongside the Tax Managers, Tax Accountants and Tax Return Processor.
The Tax Department oversees 3 sub-departments, including an investments division, family office and HNW tax work. Work often requires preparing detailed Excel worksheets supporting tax return compliance & planning.
The Tax Department:
• Coordinates with outside general partners and their CPA's to obtain all information required to prepare all federal and state partnership income tax returns & extensions timely & efficiently for the various partnerships while distributing K-1's to the underlying partners/clients well in advance of their tax filing deadlines.
• Reconciles cash flow between outside K-1's and amounts contributed from or distributed to the underlying partners.
• Reviews ownership changes between years to ensure all partners receive accurate K-1's.
The Department Head supervises, reviews, & trains the Accountants who provide services for payroll, bill pay, QuickBooks accounting, budgeting, cash flow projections, tax return coordination, & income/estate/gift tax planning/implementation.
Assist the investment team by reviewing their clients' complicated
individual, trust, estate, gift, and private foundation federal and state income tax returns.
• Reviews all clients' CPA prepared Trust Accounting Income (TAI) calculations. A complete understanding of TAI is critical.
• Prepares Estate & Gift Form 706 / 709 supporting valuation work papers.
• Tax Return Coordination - The Department
Head is responsible for coordinating federal and state income tax return preparation with outside CPA's for various High Net Worth Clients' Tax Returns.
This work consists of:
Supervising/reviewing the Tax Accountant's QuickBooks' financials, tax basis and income summary schedules, and 1099 reconciliation work.
Submitting tax packages to CPA firms.
Reviewing CPA prepared returns for consistency, accuracy, and planning.
Ensuring all federal and state income tax returns as well as estimated tax
payments are timely filed and paid.
Additional Responsibilities
• Represent clients in IRS and state income tax/estate audits & correspond with federal and state government agencies to resolve penalty, interest, & other tax return matters.
• Work with the Management Team on special projects such as budgeting, cash flow projections, and income, estate & gift tax planning/implementation.
• Work with Outside Form 1099 Provider to ensure tax reporting documents are accurate.
• Prepare nominee reporting tax documents for various alternative investments.
• Invoice clients for client-approved bookkeeping, tax return coordination, & income/estate/gift tax planning/implementation, similar to CPA firms. The Tax Department tracks their time in order to invoice clients for work performed.
• Stay technically updated to ensure all tax returns & documents comply with ever-changing tax laws.
REQUIREMENTS:
• CPA license required.
• Proficient in QuickBooks, Excel, and Word.
• Minimum of 6 years of public accounting experience required, more desirable.
