General Summary:

Fulfillment Fund has an annual operating budget of nearly $4 million, with philanthropic support accounting for over 88% of total revenue. The Vice President of Development is a visionary and results-oriented fundraising leader responsible for growing philanthropic revenue to meet the goals outlined in the organization's strategic plan.


Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer and serving as a key member of the executive leadership team, the VP of Development will lead the strategic expansion of a comprehensive development program. This individual will partner closely with the CEO, Board of Directors, program and marketing teams to grow a culture of philanthropy and broaden the Fulfillment Fund's base of support from individuals, foundations, corporations, and events. The ideal candidate will bring strategic insight, a hands-on leadership style, and a passion for educational equity to advance the organization's mission and long-term sustainability.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


Strategic Leadership

  • Serve as the organization's chief development strategist and a core contributor to the implementation of the Fulfillment Fund's multi-year strategic plan.
  • Design and lead a multi-faceted fundraising program that increases unrestricted revenue and supports long-term organizational growth.
  • Drive the growth of philanthropic revenue in alignment with strategic goals and evolving programmatic needs.
  • Provide leadership in strengthening the culture of philanthropy across the organization, working cross-functionally to align fundraising, marketing/communications, programs, and finance.
  • Collaborate with the CEO and Board of Directors to support governance and engagement strategies, including fundraising participation, donor cultivation, and Board development initiatives.

Board & External Relations

  • Partner with the CEO and Director of Development/Major Gifts to engage the Board of Directors in fundraising strategy and activities, including individualized donor engagement plans and philanthropic ambassadorship.
  • Provide training and tools to enhance the Board's fundraising capacity and confidence.
  • Represent the Fulfillment Fund at key events, in donor meetings, and within the philanthropic community to elevate the organization's visibility and credibility.

Fundraising & Donor Engagement

  • Oversee a diverse and balanced fundraising portfolio, including major gifts, annual giving, foundation and corporate relations, planned giving, and special events.
  • Cultivate and steward a personal portfolio of top donors and prospects, with a focus on five- and six-figure gifts.
  • Lead strategy and execution for the organization's annual gala and other development-focused events in partnership with internal teams and consultants.
  • Ensure effective stewardship practices that build trust, deepen engagement, and foster long-term investment in the mission.

Team Leadership & Development Operations

  • Lead, coach, and support a high-performing development team, including direct supervision of the Director of Development, Manager of Development Operations, Development Coordinator, and shared supervision of the Manager of Community Engagement & Partnerships (with the Chief Program Officer).
  • Foster a positive and inclusive team culture rooted in trust, collaboration, and shared accountability.
  • Ensure the effective use of Raiser's Edge and other fundraising systems for prospect tracking, donor segmentation, reporting, and performance metrics.
  • Partner with finance to ensure accurate forecasting, alignment of revenue and expense projections, and timely grant reporting.

Organizational Leadership:

  • The VP Of Development, along with the CEO ,CFO-COO and CPO form the Senior Management Team, which is responsible for making strategic decisions and assuring alignment across the organization.

Supervisory, Team Leadership and Other Responsibilities:

The position supervises Director of Development, Manager of Development Operations, Development Coordinator, Manager of Community Engagement & Partnerships (shared supervision with Chief Program Officer), Consultants (as needed).


Employees will be responsible for their own transportation to and from the office, school sites and other work-related locations.


Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in nonprofit fundraising, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
  • Proven track record of securing major gifts and meeting ambitious fundraising goals.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead strategic development planning and implement innovative fundraising strategies.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills; capable of building authentic relationships with donors, staff, Board members, and external partners.
  • Experience engaging and mobilizing nonprofit boards in fundraising activities.
  • Skilled in team leadership, performance management, and creating a positive, purpose-driven work environment.
  • Familiarity with Los Angeles' philanthropic landscape preferred.
  • Proficiency in donor database systems (Raiser's Edge preferred) and data-driven fundraising.
  • Commitment to equity, education, and the mission of the Fulfillment Fund.

Education and/or Experience:

Education: Bachelor's degree in Nonprofit Management, Data Science, Social Sciences/Liberal Arts, Business, or a related field.

While performing the duties of this job, must be available to work irregular hours, shifts, weekends, and holidays. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Employee will constantly work in indoor/outdoor weather conditions.


Conditions of Employment:

Hiring is contingent upon successful completion of a background check, Live Scan & TB test.


Compensation:

  • Salary range: $160,000 - $180,000 depending on experience.
  • Comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, 401(k) with match.
