Brief Job Overview
The Vice President (VP), Small Molecules, is responsible for developing and executing the small
molecule strategy for documentary standards, including all aspects of new monograph development and
revision, monograph modernization, and the USP-NF. The incumbent heads a department in
Documentary Standards and Compendial Policy, serves as a co-lead for the Small Molecules Program
Unit Team (PUT), and leads a team of direct and matrixed reports. In addition, the VP leads and
develops his/her staff through mentoring and coaching to cultivate future science leaders. The VP will
also serve as a member of the DSCP leadership team and the Global Leadership Team.

The Vice President, Small Molecules has the following responsibilities:
Continue to expand the small molecule portfolio of documentary standards and solutions
including the monograph development process to support the USP-NF.
Leads a department responsible for the development of new monographs, revisions of
monographs, accelerated revisions, monograph redesign, and other tasks related to monograph
development.
Develops the annual budget for revenue, expenses, and operating change targets for the area of
responsibility and ensures adherence to budget. Identifies solutions to budget constraints to
ensure goals and objectives are not hindered.
Drives the effective achievement of the organizations goals relating to productivity, quality, and
efficiency. Maintains continuous efforts to strengthen the overall quality and efficiency of our
standards development processes. Co-leads the Small Molecules Program Unit.
Establishes and maintains productive relations with the Council of Experts, Expert Committees,
and Advisory Panels to ensure quality monographs and solutions.
Drives resolution of compendial issues related to monographs in accordance with the Rules and
Procedures of the Council of Experts, USP guidelines, standard operating procedures.
Collaborates closely with all USP staff /departments for establishing new processes and/or
process improvement initiatives in areas of interest.
Leads and develops staff within the department, encourages professional development by
assisting in identifying opportunities for learning and professional growth.
Who is USP Looking For?
The successful candidate will have a demonstrated understanding of our mission, commitment to
excellence through inclusive and equitable behaviors and practices, ability to quickly build credibility
with stakeholders, along with the following competencies and experience:
Ph.D. or equivalent professional degree in a field of chemistry, pharmaceutical science or other
related scientific field of study.
Minimum of 15 years of broad industry experience including a minimum of five years in a
leadership level position.
Minimum of 10 years of people management experience managing and leading a group of senior
staff.
Previous success as an analytical laboratory director, including training and developing
subordinates and working with USP tests and standards.
Additional Desired Preferences
Demonstrated expertise in pharmaceutical analysis including separation science and other
stability-indicating techniques.
Experience with pharmaceutical regulatory requirements (e.g. cGMPs, FDA guidelines, etc.).
Understanding of USP standards-setting processes and compendial terminology.
Knowledge of global pharmaceutical and healthcare industries and related trade associations.
Demonstrated leadership and management capabilities.
Management of a diverse and multi-faceted staff including Directors, scientists, and support
staff.
Ability to solve complex problems with keen instincts and organizational experience.
Demonstrated ability to communicate complex ideas clearly and concisely.
Demonstrated ability to collaborate and align across disciplines and departments.
Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to develop important relationships with customers and key
stakeholders, good conflict management skills.
Demonstrated ability to translate strategy into action.
Strong influence, negotiation, teamwork and presentation skills.
May require some travel to international sites.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Four direct reporting Sr. Managers (in US) and two matrix reporting Sr. Managers (in India).

Compensation
Base Salary Range: USD $232,000.00 $313,250.00 annually.
Target Annual Bonus: % Varies based on level of role.
Individual compensation packages are based on various factors unique to each candidates skill set,
experience, qualifications, equity, and other job-related reasons.
