Job Objective & Safety/Security Sensitive Designation This position is designated as a safety/security sensitive position and is subject to random drug and alcohol screening.Job Objective: To receive and store impounded vehicles coming into the possession of the vehicle storage facility of the Department of Fleet Services.
Essential FunctionsESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Processes the in-take of vehicles received at the facility to include, enters data, photographs vehicle, records wrecker driver tow ticket, inventory sheet, steering wheel and dashboard tags with correct impound number to identify vehicles and property with all records; utilizes a computer and hand held computer system.
- Assigns impound numbers to property impounded in the facility to ensure proper identification and relocation.
- Conducts impound lot inspections to monitor the lot and facility for hazardous liquid spills from impounded vehicles; implements clean up procedures in compliance with applicable Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) policies, procedures, rules and regulations.
- Conducts a daily pre-shift inventory and inspection of facility equipment.
- Processes release of vehicles by verifying impound number, license plate and vehicle identification numbers (VIN) match customer receipts before release of vehicle; notifies appropriate personnel of any discrepancies or vehicles left on lot.
- Escorts vehicle owners, lien holders, insurance agents, and wrecker drivers to vehicles located on the vehicle storage facility for the removal of vehicles and the retrieval of personal property in compliance with applicable facility policies and procedures; utilizes battery charger to assist property owners with impounded or auctioned vehicles as needed.
- Operates a forklift and wheel loader to tow immovable vehicles; moves damaged vehicular parts and places with appropriate vehicles.
- Performs perimeter checks on the facility grounds for evidence of any break-in or vandalism to City property; monitors facility for potential fire hazards; notifies supervisor of any unusual or suspicious activity.
- Directs customers to vehicles available for sale at auctions; serves as security during the auctions; moves unclaimed vehicles to designated auction areas for public auction.
- Answers telephone; directs caller to the appropriate staff and provides information requested.
- Operates a computer in the performance of essential functions.
- Operates automobiles in the performance of essential job functions.
Minimum Qualifications, Additional Requirements and Supervisory ResponsibilitiesMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
These knowledge, skills, and abilities are usually, although not always, acquired through completion of High School to include six (6) months of basic computer experience. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENT: - Must be available to report to work during inclement weather, and shift assignments which include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Must possess certification as a forklift operator within one (1) year of employment and maintain certification for the duration of employment in this position.
- Must possess a valid Arkansas Class D (Non-Commercial Vehicle) Driver's License before employment and maintain licensure for the duration of employment in this position.
