The North Carolina Department of Administration (NCDOA), Division of Surplus, is seeking an organized, motivated, and skilled Administrative Associate II position (working title: Vehicle Associate) with our State Surplus Property division. This division offers surplus property received from state agencies and the University System to other state agencies in need, and/or sells to qualifying non-profit organizations and the public. This position does data entry for the DWI/Felony Speeding to Elude contract, attends 2-auctions each month and assists the vehicle team with daily operations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Organize and record information into a database and create reports
  • Attend 3-auctions each month, one being held on a Saturday every month
  • Use various software programs to compile and edit information and create reports
  • Assist the vehicle team with day-to-day operations as needed
  • Additional duties as assigned
Division/ Department Overview
The Department of Administration serves as the business manager for North Carolina state government and provides leadership to state government agencies for the effective, efficient, economical and equitable delivery of services to the public. The department also provides assistance and services to several advocacy programs that serve diverse segments of the state's population that have traditionally been underserved. The agency's mission directs departmental efforts to: acquire, develop and maintain properties and facilities; create and operate an efficient system to purchase and dispose of goods and services to meet the needs of government agencies; provide excellent operational services to state employees; achieve fair and equitable opportunities and representation for various segments of the population that have special needs; and to provide administrative support to independent state government agencies.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

  • Working knowledge of office procedures, methods and practices
  • Ability to record, compile, summarize and perform basic analysis of data (online and paper records)
  • Ability to maintain accurate clerical records, online and on paper, and to write legibly
  • Ability to learn and independently apply laws as well as department rules and regulations
  • Customer service experience
MANAGEMENT PREFERENCE:
  • Intermediate skills in Excel
  • Ability to use correct grammar, vocabulary, and spelling
  • Clean driving record with no more than 1 minor infraction in the last 5 years
  • Ability to operate equipment such as a golf cart, battery booster, and digital camera
Other Requirements:
  • Valid NC driver's license. Out of State Applicants must have a valid Driver's License or acquire a NC Driver's License within 90 days of hire. Candidate must present proof of a valid NC Driver's License and proof of an acceptable driving record upon hiring.
  • Some travel will be required, including at least one Saturday per month.
  • Must be able to work outdoors in extreme weather or temperatures.
  • Work may require physical exertion; applicants need the ability to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/ or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/ or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and one year of administrative experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
