VARSITY HEAD COACH

JOB DESCRIPTION

Saline Athletics is seeking an outstanding individual to lead our Varsity Ski program as Head Coach. The ideal candidate will be an exemplary role model on and off the field, court, or pool; a skilled educator of both sport-specific techniques and life skills; and an excellent communicator with players, families, and the broader school community.

This position is expected to build a comprehensive program that emphasizes player development, team success, leadership, integrity, and sportsmanship-aligned with the educational mission and athletic philosophy of Saline Area Schools.

QUALIFICATIONS
Required Education/Certification
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Current CPR/First Aid certification (or the ability to obtain)
Preferred Education/Certification
  • Coaching education or sport-specific certifications (e.g. CAP 1, CAP 2, etc.)
Required Experience
  • Previous successful coaching experience in the assigned sport
  • Demonstrated ability to organize, supervise, and provide leadership for a total sport program
  • Knowledge of relevant sport rules and MHSAA regulations
Preferred Experience
  • Experience coaching at the high school varsity level
  • Background in strength and conditioning or youth athlete development
  • Experience working collaboratively with booster clubs, youth programs, and community stakeholders
RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES
  • Plan, organize, and execute a comprehensive high school athletic program
  • Develop athletes' skills, strategies, and physical conditioning
  • Foster a positive and inclusive team culture focused on character, accountability, and teamwork
  • Supervise team members and coaching staff
  • Promote good sportsmanship and conduct all activities in an ethical manner
  • Coordinate with the Athletic Director and attend required meetings
  • Maintain communication with athletes, parents, and school personnel
  • Oversee offseason training and program development activities

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS, WORK HAZARDS

Work in school environments including indoor and outdoor athletic facilities requiring mobility, visual and auditory acuity, communication skills, interpersonal skills, organizational skills, problem-solving skills, adaptability, technology proficiency, physical stamina, and environmental awareness.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Supervise athletes and assistant coaches. Advise, coordinate, and support assistant coaches and volunteers in conjunction with the Athletic Director.

Varsity Head Coaches report directly to the Athletic Director.

EQUIPMENT

Use and maintenance of athletic equipment relevant to the sport.

TRAVEL

Travel required for practices, games, and events. Practices are held at Mt. Brighton Ski Resort (4141 Bauer Rd, Brighton, MI 48116).

WORK SCHEDULE

Seasonal with some year-round program responsibilities. Practices and competitions typically occur after school hours and on weekends.

SALARY

Stipend commensurate with experience and subject to team budget.
