Utilities Manager - Fortune 500 Manufacturing Company - Portland, OR
As the Utilities Manager, you will be instrumental in ensuring the mechanical and electrical reliability of all manufacturing equipment within the plant. You will directly manage Maintenance Leads/Engineers and Mechanical/Electrical Technician Shift Leads, and Maintenance Planner. Collaboration is key, as you will work closely with Engineering (dotted line), Process Engineers, and various stakeholders across the plant to support our 24/7 manufacturing operations. Reporting to the Senior Maintenance Manager, you will play a critical role in implementing our manufacturing strategy and achieving key performance targets in safety, quality, volume, cost, sustainability, and organizational morale.

Compensation: $135,000 - $155,000 Base Salary + 14% bonus. Benefits start day 1, Medical, Dental, Vision, Life, STD, LTD, 401k match up to 9%, 20 days PTO.

Overview:
- Lead Maintenance Execution: Effectively manage and direct the Maintenance Execution operations for the Portland bakery, ensuring seamless support for our 24/7 manufacturing environment.
- Drive Equipment Uptime: Define and execute short-term and long-term strategies and plans to guarantee consistent equipment uptime.
- Eradicate Losses & Maximize OEE: Develop and implement a systematic plan to identify and eliminate losses, driving maximum Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) and minimizing waste across the plant.
- Prevent Downtime: Partner with the Maintenance Reliability team to develop and implement proactive strategies and plans aimed at preventing equipment downtime.
- Optimize Changeovers: Apply Single Minute Exchange of Dies (SMED) principles to reduce tooling and optimize equipment changeover processes.
- Support Capital Projects: Collaborate with Engineering to develop and execute capital plans focused on improving equipment and facilities.
- Ensure GMP Compliance: Guarantee that all maintenance activities support the production of goods according to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) standards and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Manage Budget Effectively: Oversee the Maintenance & Repairs budget, working in partnership with the Senior Maintenance Manager, other Section Managers, third-party providers, Manufacturing leaders, and the Plant Controller.
- Provide Expertise & Guidance: Offer support, technical expertise, and guidance to your direct team, the broader Maintenance department, and the Engineering team.
- Manage Third-Party Providers: Oversee the portfolio, relationships, and work execution of third-party maintenance providers in accordance with standards.
- Implement Best Practices: Implement world-class manufacturing and maintenance practices, including the Lean Six Sigma Program.
- Deliver Operational Savings: Drive year-over-year operational savings through the implementation of practices and governance that foster continuous improvement and a zero-loss mentality.
- Develop High-Performing Teams: Build self-sufficient teams and cultivate a high-performance organization by effectively managing talent, capabilities, and engagement. Develop and maintain a succession plan for the M&R organization, implementing strategies to attract, retain, and develop talent.
- Champion Servant Leadership: Act as a champion and role model for servant leadership principles within the organization.
- Uphold Standards & Compliance: Be a strong advocate for manufacturing standards, compliance requirements, quality and safety policies, and all applicable regulations.
Experience:
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in a maintenance role within a manufacturing environment.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a maintenance leadership role.
- Maintenance Systems Development: Proven success in developing and implementing comprehensive maintenance systems, including preventative maintenance programs, budget management for all systems (automation, pumps, belts, etc.), ensuring smooth line operations.
- Downtime Reduction: Demonstrated success in reducing plant downtime through improvements in Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF) and Mean Time To Repair (MTTR), leading to overall OEE improvement.
- Team and Talent Development: Proven track record of successfully developing teams and talent, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
- Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Project Management & Organization: Excellent project management and organizational skills.
- Communication Skills: Ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization, with excellent written and interpersonal communication skills.

- TPM (Total Productive Maintenance) expertise.
- Experience in CPG (Consumer Packaged Goods) or food manufacturing.
