Required: Experience working on larger MF projects, complex, longer skill projects will match up well. Cobal JCL, IMS are must haves.
Is this supporting any specific project: will be on a rating program buildout (P&C program buildout)
What stands out on a resume: experience as lead on projects with bigger longer term projects, willingness to learn and ask questions. Not looking for just a doer but to be able to think and ask questions on big picture.
Any immediate disqualifiers: if they haven't done a lot of development in recent past. Removed from actual coding in the last 5 years.
Is there a preference for industries the candidates have worked in: Financial, Banking, Insurance. Understanding insurance product would be a leg up.
Can you tell me what the person's day to day will be like: Attending ceremonies/daily huddle. Sprint planning, retrospectives, partner with other team members, ask questions, office hours, will have time for heads down work. Opportunity to collaborate with other engineers especially when they first start.
Responsibilities:
• Collaborative partner: Working with our Global Retail Markets team of product owners and fellow engineers, you'll tackle technical challenges and ensure quality as we build new products and move from legacy technologies to next-generation applications
• Comprehensive problem-solver: As you manage the end-to-end development of software products, you'll analyze issues at the system level and handle any complications that arise by implementing effective solutions
• Skilled technical engineer: You'll document and lead the implementation of technical features, improvements and innovations
• Forward thinker: Simply fixing the problem isn't enough; using your proactive mindset and initiative, you'll continually look for ways to improve performance, quality and efficiency
Job Qualifications:
• A Bachelor's or Master's degree in a technical or business discipline, or equivalent experience
• 5 or more years of software engineering experience with mainframe development skills in COBOL, DB2, JCL, IMS, MQ & Xpediter
• Proven aptitude to drive Mainframe modernization in technologies like: AWS, Java, NodeJS, Springboot, and Kafka
• Proficiency in software engineering languages and tools spanning horizontal and vertical packages
• Strong background in business operations and strategies, including global technology and financial services trends
• A history of translating complex client requirements into complex technical designs
• Agile engineering capabilities and a design-thinking mindset
• Excellent collaboration, adaptability, flexibility, and the ability to manage time and prioritize work with a globally-distributed development team
• Strong communication skills and a knack for explaining your decision-making process to non-engineers
• A thorough grasp of IT concepts, business operations, design and development tools, system architecture and technical standards, shared software concepts and layered solutions and designs
