Description
This is a full-time non-tenure track position within the Division of Education and Leadership (DEL) at Governors State University . The University Lecturer, Instructor/University Supervisor will collaborate with faculty to supervise candidates in the Elementary Education program in their clinical experiences in elementary and middle schools within an approximate 40-mile radius of the University and teach several classes as necessary. Paid travel for supervision is included.
Essential Responsibilities
Serve as a supervisor to observe and evaluate candidates and student teachers in the field, which involves traveling to various elementary and middle schools.Observe and evaluate candidates and student teachers in their clinical and student teaching placements, including informal and formal observations of candidate and student teacher lessons. Provide effective, individualized feedback to assist candidates and student teachers in improving their instruction and interactions with children.Monitor candidates' and student teachers' progress.Guide candidates through their clinical and student teaching requirements.Complete, record, and enter data into appropriate platforms for candidates' and student teachers' teaching evaluations and other required forms. Collaborate with faculty and staff at the University and clinical sites to meet all appropriate standards and follow all policies and procedures.Communicate and build relationships with mentor teachers and school administrators to accomplish clinical and student teaching goals and outcomes as well as fulfill responsibilities with partner school districts.Teach classes as necessary and participate in student teaching seminars. Other ResponsibilitiesConduct regular check-ins between observations with candidates and student teachers.Implement effective coaching strategies to support candidates' and student teachers' needs.Provide candidates with resources and support in academic and social/emotional areas.Participation all meetings and committees (program, division, and college), as appropriate.Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required Education, Experience, and Credentials
Master's degree in education. Valid and current Professional Educator License (PEL).Five (5) years of demonstrated successful experience as an elementary (grades 1-6) or middle grades (grades 5-8) teacher. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written.Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite and other education-related, computer/technology skills.Ability to work during traditional workday/school day hours (8 a.m. - 5 p.m.), as well as flexibility when necessary. Ability to travel to schools within an approximate 40-mile radius of the University.Valid driver's license and an insured vehicle (required). Six (6) + years of demonstrated teaching experience in elementary (grades 1-6) and/or middle grades (grades 5-8) education, earning ratings of proficient and/or distinguished on most recent evaluations.Two (2) years of successful experience in mentoring or supervising teachers or providing support services to candidates and/or student teachers. Two (2) years of part- or full-time successful education teaching experience in a community college or college/ university setting.Supplemental Information
