Purpose The Clery Compliance Specialist is responsible for supporting the university's compliance with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act) and related regulations. This includes assisting in annual reporting, crime data analysis, training coordination, and stakeholder outreach. The Clery Compliance Specialist also contributes to the evaluation and implementation of systems and tools to support Clery-related compliance activities. The Clery Compliance Specialist may also assist with other compliance and administrative activities within the University Risk and Compliance Services portfolio.
Responsibilities - Assists in the preparation, publication, and distribution of the Annual Security and Fire Safety Report (ASFSR). Ensures notices announcing the report's availability are properly developed and accessible to prospective students and employees.
- Gathers crime and disciplinary referral data from internal and external sources (e.g., Dean of Students, University Police, Campus Safety, local/state law enforcement). Collaborates with campus partners to support university-wide public safety compliance.
- Supports the evaluation, selection, and implementation of software or systems designed to manage Clery Act compliance. Develops documentation and best practice guidance for university stakeholders using the system.
- Coordinates day-to-day activities related to Clery Act compliance, including implementation of related policies and procedures. Serves as the institution's designated Campus Safety Survey Administrator for the U.S. Department of Education.
- Maintains and updates the university's list of Campus Security Authorities (CSAs). Supports development and delivery of CSA training programs and compliance-focused outreach.
- Stays current with changes to Clery Act requirements, state laws (e.g., Texas Education Code), and other applicable regulations. Assists with communication of relevant updates to campus stakeholders.
- Assists with general compliance program support, including training coordination, policy documentation, and hotline operations as needed.
Required Qualifications - Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Criminal Justice, Emergency Management or similar field, and at least 5 years of administrative work experience with Jeanne Clery Act compliance, other federal or state act compliance reporting, safety accreditation or compliance processes.
- Understanding compliance and policies in the context of institutions of higher education and how that relates to Department of Education requirements.
- Experience with basic methods and procedures for research and statistical analysis and the ability to use and apply information to make recommendations and/or implement change.
- Excellent oral and written communications skills and experience with preparing and performing informational presentations, including the ability to respond to questions from employees, managers, customers, and the general public in both small and large group settings, and the ability to communicate to a population of students, faculty and staff.
- Excellent organizational and project management skills and ability to perform all duties with accuracy, timeliness, and trust, in a professional, competent, and courteous manner, exercising independent judgment and sound decision-making skills. Ability to collaborate with multiple entities to plan and accomplish objectives, and coordinate ongoing multiple, large, and complex projects from conception to completion. Demonstrated experience with Microsoft office suite, databases, and presentation software.
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications - Juris Doctor and/or a Master's degree related to higher education administration with experience as an investigator/administrator with an aptitude to read, understand and explain law and policy to a wide ranges of audiences.
- Knowledge of federal and state public safety reporting requirements including, but not limited to: Clery Act, Department of Justice (DOJ) Reporting Requirements and other applicable crime data reporting requirements.
- Advanced Clery Training and competencies.
- Thorough knowledge of Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) and National Incident Based Reporting System (NIBRS) classifications for statistical reporting.
- Training and experience in crime analysis and preparation of Campus Annual Security Reports.
- Experience with utilization of Records Management Systems (RMS).
- Knowledge of Title IX policies and how they relate to Clery Act policies and reporting requirements.
Salary Range $57,500 - $62,500
