- JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE
- Responsible for the organization and transmission of patient information by telephone, verbal and written communications. Serves as a receptionist and ambassador for the department by answering phones and greeting patients, visitors, and family members. Provides information and direction to customers in accordance with their needs. Performs various support activities for the department such as ordering supplies, stocking, and coordinating the needs of the unit/department.
- DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION
- The Emergency Department provides care for patients with a wide variety of needs from non-critical to emergent medical conditions including emergent and urgent mental health care. All patients are welcome whether walking in or arriving by emergency transport. All Emergency Department staff are certified to care for critical cardiac and trauma patients including children.
- EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Experience and/or training with computer applications required.
- Experience and/or training in medical terminology preferred.
- Related experience and/or training in a medical facility preferred.
- KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
- Communication - Effective written and oral communication skills to explain complex issues, exchange information between team members, and tactfully discuss issues. Ability to perform group presentations and listen to and understand complex information and ideas.
- Team Building - Ability to work, function and communicate on a multi-disciplinary team. Possess the knowledge and skills to develop constructive and cooperative working relationships with others and maintain them over time.
- Problem Solving - Ability to identify complex problems, review related information, employ creativity and alternative thinking to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
- Clerical - Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, designing forms, and other office procedures and terminology.
- Computer Literacy - Knowledge of electronic equipment, computer hardware and software, including applications and programming. Ability to operate applications, write software, set up functions, enter data, and manipulate and process information. Possess skills in the use of computer applications and entering of charges.
