Job Title: Unified Basketball Assistant Coach School: North Middlesex Regional High School Location: 19 Main St, Townsend, MA 01469 Job Type: Winter 2025 Season Job Description: North Middlesex Regional High School is seeking a Unified Basketball Assistant Coach to support the head coach in the management and development of the Unified Basketball program. The Unified Basketball program is designed to provide students with and without disabilities the opportunity to work together, develop their skills, and participate in basketball in an inclusive environment. The Assistant Coach will help facilitate practice, provide support during games, and assist in fostering a positive, respectful, and inclusive team culture. The successful candidate will be passionate about promoting inclusion and teamwork, as well as creating an atmosphere where all student-athletes, regardless of ability, feel supported and empowered to grow personally and athletically. Key Responsibilities: Practice & Skill Development: Assist the head coach in planning and conducting daily practices that focus on basketball fundamentals, teamwork, and skill development for all athletes. Work with athletes individually and in groups, providing guidance to ensure skill improvement and confidence-building. Ensure that all athletes are engaged and participating, regardless of skill level or ability. Game Day Support: Assist the head coach in organizing and preparing the team for games, including conducting warm-ups and player rotations. Support athletes on game day by encouraging teamwork, providing feedback, and helping to maintain a positive and respectful team environment. Ensure all players are physically and mentally prepared for competition. Team Culture & Support: Foster a team culture of inclusion, mutual respect, and encouragement, ensuring that all athletes feel valued and supported. Support the personal and social development of athletes, promoting leadership, sportsmanship, and teamwork. Build relationships with athletes and help cultivate a positive and respectful environment on and off the court. Communication & Collaboration: Communicate regularly with the head coach, athletes, and parents about team expectations, progress, and upcoming events. Collaborate with other coaches, staff, and volunteers to ensure smooth operation of the Unified Basketball program. Assist in organizing team logistics such as transportation, scheduling, and equipment needs. Safety & Compliance: Ensure that all team activities adhere to school policies and MIAA guidelines. Help implement injury prevention measures and follow concussion management protocols during practices and games. Maintain required certifications, including Concussion Training (NFHS or CDC-approved), First Aid & CPR Certification, and CORI/SORI Background Check. Qualifications: Required Qualifications: Previous coaching experience or a strong understanding of basketball fundamentals. Ability to work with athletes of varying abilities, fostering an inclusive and supportive environment. Strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills. Passion for promoting inclusion and teamwork among athletes of different backgrounds. Must meet all district and MIAA coaching requirements. Preferred Qualifications: Experience working with students with disabilities or in inclusive educational settings. Previous coaching experience at the high school or collegiate level. Knowledge of basketball strategy, team dynamics, and skill development. Experience in fostering inclusive practices and creating positive relationships with athletes.
