GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Summer Internships are available at the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (TxDMV). The Summer Internship positions are available to students enrolled in or recently graduated from an accredited college, university, or technical school. Summer Internships are paid, full-time, temporary employment positions that begin no earlier than May 15, 2025, and end no later than August 31, 2025.

This Law Clerk Internship position will be in the Office of Administrative Hearings (OAH) and will assist the administrative law judges (ALJs) with Lemon Law and Warranty Performance proceedings. Responsibilities include drafting legal documents, performing legal research, and assisting the ALJs with other functions and operations of OAH. The law clerk may also attend/observe hearings. The successful candidate must exhibit high standards of excellence and integrity, and always display, to all persons, a courteous, professional, and cooperative attitude.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Legal research and writing

Assists Hearings Examiners in preparing for trial and drafting orders and decisions

Creates searchable database of previous decisions and relevant case law

Manages exhibits submitted into evidence

Summarizes testimony and other evidence

Performs legal analysis and prepares memoranda of law

Required to attend work regularly and adhere to approved work hours in accordance with

department policies and procedures.

Performs other duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws relating to the program

Knowledge of legal principles, practices, and procedures

Skill in legal research, writing, and analysis

Skill in handling multiple tasks, prioritizing, and meeting deadlines

Skill in effective oral and written communication

Qualifications:

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Currently enrolled or graduated within the past 12 months from an accredited college, university, vocational, trade, or technical school with a grade point average of 2.5 or higher.

At least 18 years of age

Eligible to work in the United States

We will require an official transcript to be provided to Human Resources for review prior to starting with TxDMV.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

REGISTRATION, CERTIFICATION AND/OR LICENSURE

A valid Class "C" driver's license is required. If not currently a Texas resident, must obtain a Texas Driver's License within 90 days after entering Texas as a new resident. A satisfactory driving record is required for operating state or personal vehicles to conduct department business.

  • Compliance with Selective Service registration for males ages 18-25
