GENERAL SUMMARY

A law firm in Downtown Dallas is seeking an experienced paralegal for their litigation section. The candidate should have 10+ years of litigation experience, including strong trial experience, and must be able to manage dockets independently. Bachelor's degree or completion of 2-year program from an ABA approved paralegal school preferred. Experience with eDiscovery, Westlaw, and Court Alert or other docketing systems. Knowledge of Case Logistix and Disco is a plus. Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Must also have a professional demeanor and be a self-starter with excellent written and oral communication skills.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Establishes and maintains calendar and deadline reminder systems. Manages calendar and assists in meeting deadlines.
  • Meets with attorneys, clients and other professionals to discuss assigned cases or projects.
  • Drafts legal documents, including routing pleadings, motions, affidavits, and discovery. Completes filings on Pacer and Filetime in accordance with judicial procedures.
  • Researches and analyzes statutes, regulations, legal articles, judicial decisions, and other legal sources; provides written analysis to attorneys.
  • Interviews clients and witnesses and prepares summaries of their statements.
  • Prepares, organizes, stores, and retrieves case files, which may include evidence, exhibits, depositions, pleadings and other items.
  • Assists attorneys with trial preparation, including attending trials and hearings as needed.
  • Develops and maintains records regarding billable hours spent on specific cases.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Adhere to Firm policies and procedures as outlined in the Firm Handbooks.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

  • 4 year college degree or 2 year Paralegal certificate required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Understanding of legal language and principles, research methods, court pleadings and processes and other related matters.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, and to exercise discretion and good judgment.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
