Salary: $75,000 - $125,000
Education: Bachelor's degree (STEM)
Experience: 1-15+ Years OVERVIEW
Caribou Thunder is seeking a highly motivated Field Engineer / Systems Administrator to support sustainment, synchronization, and enhancements for the Global Command and Control System - Joint (GCCS-J) across a variety of operational environments. This position is extremely specialized - we are specifically searching for candidates with extensive GCCS-J troubleshooting experience, not just system operation or surface-level administration. In recent interviews, we have encountered candidates who have operated GCCS-J but lacked deep system administration and troubleshooting expertise. We seek a true technical expert who can perform full lifecycle system administration, install and troubleshoot GCCS-J in operational environments, and who is willing to travel to support system deployments, upgrades, and troubleshooting missions. You will be part of a dynamic team working in support of Joint Warfighter operations, providing system sustainment, modifications, and enhancements to better support operational requirements and future mission needs. REQUIREMENTS
Install, configure, troubleshoot, and maintain GCCS-J systems in operational and lab environments. Lead fielding efforts, including site surveys, system deployments, and operational troubleshooting. Perform full life cycle testing, including unit, functional, and integration testing across multiple system architectures. Configure and maintain Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and Windows operating systems to meet mission requirements. Manage user accounts, permissions, and access controls in compliance with DoD security standards.
Implement and verify system updates, patches, security STIGs, and upgrades. Develop, execute, and maintain detailed test plans and procedures mapped to operational requirements. Troubleshoot complex system issues, diagnose bottlenecks, and implement corrective actions. Support cybersecurity initiatives, including system hardening and continuous monitoring of information systems. Document technical processes, create system diagrams, and provide training and user guidance as necessary. Collaborate with engineering teams using Agile/Scrum methodologies for continuous system improvements. QUALIFICATIONS
Extensive hands-on troubleshooting experience with GCCS-J systems (not just operational use). IAT Level II (Security+) certification or higher. Strong Linux (RHEL) and Windows (Server and Client) system administration skills. Understanding of networking principles and network troubleshooting techniques. Ability and willingness to travel 40-50% for field installations and system troubleshooting. Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience implementing and maintaining DISA STIGs on systems and devices. Familiarity with DoD cybersecurity compliance tools (ACAS, HBSS, Endpoint Security Solutions). Knowledge of VMware virtualization and containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes). Experience with Red Hat Satellite Server, YUM repositories, and automated patching. Familiarity with Agile software development and Atlassian tool suite (JIRA, Confluence, Bitbucket). Understanding of the Risk Management Framework (RMF) and the Cyber Operations Readiness Assessment (CORA) process. Top Secret/SCI clearance preferred. BENEFITS
