This position will work days, evenings and/or nights and weekends. The Sonographer coordinates and performs a wide variety of quality diagnostic studies in the specialty of Ultrasound and may assist in performance of procedures. The Sonographer must possess and demonstrate knowledge of the following: anatomy/physiology, sonographic physics and instrumentation, relevant infection control practices, safe patient transfer and positioning techniques, and ethical and professional conduct. The incumbent is responsible for the operation of a variety of equipment used to demonstrate and document the anatomy. The Sonographer ensures accurate documentation, effective communications and demonstrates knowledge of age-appropriate criteria when working with all patients, which include high risk and critically ill patients. Responsible for accurate charge capture. Population served includes neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatrics. Certification Requirements: ARDMS - Abdomen BLS JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES: -Functions within department policies and procedures, quality assurance programs, safety, environmental and infection control standards. -Performs examinations in the area of diagnostic ultrasound. -Performs diagnostic ultrasound examinations, including surgical, portable, emergency, trauma and outpatient examinations. -Selects and operates equipment within guidelines of the Hospital and Department of Radiology. -Reviews and evaluates completed tests for quality, completeness, and type of test ordered; ensures quality images. -Obtains patient history, answers questions and explains the procedure. -Maintains department facilities, equipment, and materials in a condition to promote efficiency, health, comfort and safety of patients and staff. -Assists physician during performance of examinations. Demonstrates ability to adapt to individual physician routines. -Oversees the work of other personnel by training, allocating and monitoring work. Performs work of a similar nature. -Maintains effective communication with the department. Provides information and support to patients, physicians, visitors and other personnel within the department and hospital. -Maintains effective ethical and interpersonal skills. -Prepares, updates and maintains department records, files and reports. Participates in all areas of clerical responsibilities including operation of front reception area as well as film and file rooms. -Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings and workshops. -Assists with patient transport as necessary. -Accepts flexibility in duty assignments and schedules. Adheres to department and hospital policies and procedures.
