Central Sterile Technician - Part Time

Location: Genava NY

Job Type: Part Time (2x8s/3x8s) 24hr in week

Call Rotation: Weekend CSP call rotation, one weekend every 5 weeks

Short Description: We are seeking a dedicated Central Sterile Technician to join our team on a part-time basis. The ideal candidate will demonstrate competency in the identification, decontamination, processing, and sterilization of surgical instruments under the leadership of the Surgical Services Nurse Manager.

Complete Description: The Central Sterile Technician will possess a thorough understanding of the processing and sterilization of surgical instruments and related equipment, including sterilizers, washer decontaminators, and ultrasonic cleaners. Following a detailed orientation, the technician will function independently to ensure the proper operation of the department, including communication, problem-solving, and equipment testing.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Decontamination and Processing:

    • Independently ensure that soiled instruments and equipment are decontaminated in a manner that prevents cross-contamination.
    • Demonstrate proficiency in the processing and sterilization of surgical instruments.
  • Sterilization Procedures:

    • Assemble items properly and use appropriate packaging products in preparation for terminal sterilization to ensure a sterile product.
    • Follow established procedures to achieve sterility and high-level disinfection.
  • Equipment Operation:

    • Ensure proper operation of processing equipment, including testing and maintenance of sterilizers and other decontamination devices.
    • Communicate effectively with team members regarding equipment status and any issues that arise.
  • Inventory Management:

    • Maintain inventory and appropriate storage of sterile and sanitized items, ensuring they are ready for distribution to various departments upon request.

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience as a Central Sterile Technician or in a similar role is preferred.
  • Knowledge of sterilization processes and infection control standards.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
