Job Title: Respiratory Therapist Job Specialty: Respiratory Therapy Job Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Evening 12 3x12 Hr Guaranteed Hours: 36.00 per week Experience: Minimum years not specified License: Current license as a Registered Respiratory Therapist in the state of practice Certifications: Registered by the National Board for Respiratory Care (RRT), Basic Life Support (BLS) Must-Have: Graduate of an NBRC-approved Respiratory Therapist program Job Description: - Provide advanced-level respiratory care to patients, including diagnosing, evaluating, treating, managing, and controlling deficiencies and/or abnormalities of the cardiopulmonary system within the prescription of the order physician. - Act as a resource to Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) staff, and be responsible for special clinical projects or assignments as designated by leadership according to the needs of the department. - Perform, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic testing procedures according to protocol, and obtain arterial gases. - Oversee and troubleshoot the operation of equipment for optimal patient care. - Initiate Respiratory Protocol according to department criteria and interventions based on assessment interpretation. - Administer medications timely and safely, evaluate effects, and re-evaluate appropriately according to protocol. - Ensure communication of patient progress to staff, physicians, and other departments. - Maintain awareness of assigned patients' overall condition and communicate patient information with physicians and nurses. Make appropriate recommendations for patient care. - Recognize patients' and families' educational needs concerning health promotion and wellness, and teach self-care techniques and modalities. - Complete documentation according to departmental standards, accurately document productivity information, and monitor supplies and equipment. Notify appropriate personnel when supplies are low, out on loan, or broken. - Utilize time effectively to achieve productivity standards, including during low census times. - Participate in quality and patient safety initiatives, identify potential areas for improvement, and participate in departmental meetings. - Promote the Respiratory Care profession and act as a resource, consultant, and mentor to staff within the department and patient care areas. - Participate in quality improvement and research activities as part of the Respiratory Care Team to guide standard development of patient care. - May be required to float to other departments based on business needs and may be required to be on-call during regularly scheduled shifts. - Perform other duties as assigned.
