ECMO SPECIALIST
REQUIRED:
- RRT
- 1 Year Experience ECMO Specialist
- 2 Years RRT
- BLS, ACLS, PALS
- MN State License
Position Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) - ECMO Specialist to join our critical care team. This role is ideal for a clinician with at least 1 year of hands-on ECMO specialist experience (not just experience with ECMO patients) and a strong background in adult critical care.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide expert-level care and management of patients on Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO).
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
Perform advanced airway management including:
Intubation assistance
Tracheostomy care and suctioning
Endotracheal and oropharyngeal suctioning
Administer respiratory medications via various delivery systems (e.g., aerosol, nebulizer, HFNC).
Manage ventilators and troubleshoot alarms; assist with weaning protocols.
Conduct arterial blood gas (ABG) sampling and interpretation.
Support interdepartmental and ambulance transport of ventilated patients.
Maintain accurate documentation and adhere to facility protocols.
Required Experience:
Minimum 2 years as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
Minimum 1 year as an ECMO Specialist (hands-on ECMO management required)
Experience in adult critical care settings
Certifications Required:
RRT (Registered Respiratory Therapist)
ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
BLS (Basic Life Support)
PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
State Respiratory License (must be active at start)
Clinical Skills Required:
Airway Management: Intubation assist, tracheostomy care, suctioning
Ventilator Management: BiPAP, CPAP, SIMV, high-pressure alarm troubleshooting
Oxygen Therapy: HFNC, bag and mask, portable tanks, T-piece, trach collar
Medication Administration: Albuterol, Atrovent, Flovent, Nitric Oxide, etc.
Nebulizer Use: Heated, ultrasonic, T-piece, cold, hand-held
Patient Conditions: ARDS, COVID, pneumonia, aspiration, bronchoscopy, fresh tracheostomy
Professional Skills: ABG interpretation, chest physiotherapy, sputum collection
Additional Information:
Floating: No floating; will remain on the same unit
Block Scheduling: May be discussed with manager
Time Off: Ideally no more than 5 days of requested time off
Local Candidates: Accepted
First-Time Travelers: Accepted with required ECMO experience
