Provides advanced-level respiratory care to patients to diagnose, evaluate, treat, manage, and control deficiencies and/or abnormalities of the cardiopulmonary system within physician orders.
Acts as a resource to CRT staff and may be responsible for special clinical projects or assignments.
Performs, interprets, and evaluates diagnostic testing procedures including obtaining arterial gases.
Oversees and troubleshoots respiratory equipment for optimal patient care.
Initiates respiratory protocols and interventions based on assessments.
Administers medications safely and evaluates their effects.
Communicates patient progress to staff, physicians, and other departments.
Maintains awareness of patient condition and makes appropriate care recommendations.
Educates patients and families on health promotion, wellness, and self-care techniques.
Completes documentation according to departmental standards and monitors supplies and equipment.
Participates in quality and patient safety initiatives and departmental meetings.
Promotes the profession of Respiratory Care and acts as a resource, consultant, and mentor.
May float to other departments within competency and may be placed on-call during scheduled shifts.
