Position Overview - Role: Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) - ECMO Specialist
- Shift: 4x12 hour shifts, Day (0630 - 1900) or Night (1830 - 0700)
- Experience Required:
- Minimum 2 years as RRT
- Minimum 1 year as ECMO Specialist (must have direct ECMO training/experience, not just working with ECMO patients)
- First-timers: Accepted with at least 1 year ECMO specialist experience
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- On-call: Required as needed
- Floating: No floating outside assigned unit
- Block Schedule: Possible with manager approval
- Locals: Accepted
- Pending License: Accepted if active at start
- Return to Office (RTO) Restrictions: Ideally no more than 5 days
Required Certifications - ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- RRT License
- State License (Minnesota)
Required Skills and Experience Clinical Skills - Adult Critical Care experience required
- Airway Management: Endotracheal tube suctioning, extubation, intubation assist, nasal/oral airway placement and suctioning, pulmonary hygiene, sputum specimen collection, tracheostomy suctioning
- Patient Care: ARDS, aspiration, bronchoscopy, COVID-19, ECMO, fresh tracheostomy care, pneumonia
- Medication Administration: Albuterol, Atrovent, Combivent, Flovent, inhaled Flolan, inhaled steroids, Mucomyst, Nitric Oxide (INo), Pulmicort, racemic epinephrine, Spiriva, Tobramycin, Xopenex
- Medication Delivery Systems: Aerosol mask/trach setup
- Nebulizer Types: Cold, handheld, heated, ultrasonic, T-piece, trach collar
- Oxygen Therapy: Bag and mask, ET tube, High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC), portable oxygen tank, protocol-driven ECMO, T-piece, trach collar
- Arterial puncture experience required
- Ventilator Management: BiPAP, CPAP, SIMV, troubleshooting high-pressure alarms, weaning from mechanical ventilation, patient transport (inter-departmental and ambulance)
- Professional Knowledge: ABG interpretation, chest physiotherapy (vest and manual), drawing arterial blood gases

Additional Requirements and Notes - Physical exam within 12 months prior to start required
- Adult Tdap vaccination required (no declinations accepted; exemptions require approval)
- TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months required
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccinations or titers required
- Hepatitis B vaccination or immunity required
- Varicella vaccination or immunity required
- Drug screening within 1 year required
- Seasonal flu vaccination documentation required (with medical/religious exemptions considered)
- OSHA Respiratory Safety clearance required prior to start (RespSafety virtual questionnaire)
- Criminal background check within 1 year required
- MN DHS NetStudy Fingerprint clearance required before start (time sensitive)
- Completion of Allina Health pre-orientation online modules required within 72 hours of assignment start
- Badge photo and badge request process required for facility access
