    Job Details
  • Provides prescribed medical treatment and personal care services to ill, injured, convalescent, and disabled persons in all areas of the hospital, including inpatient and outpatient.

  • Maintains the standards of nursing care and implements the policies and procedures of the hospital and Nursing Department in accordance with the scope of practice for the state of Nebraska.
  • Assesses the patient's condition and identifies nursing diagnosis in order to set goals; prescribes appropriate nursing actions to meet those goals and the physical, psychological, social and rehabilitative needs of the patient, including discharge planning.
  • Reports pertinent observations and reactions regarding patients to the appropriate person, and records those observations accurately and concisely.
  • Assists team members in giving care to patients, or administers direct care as assigned.
  • Initiates and updates individualized nursing care plans.
  • Administers medication and performs treatments to assigned patients as per policy/procedure and documents time, type, amount, etc. on patients' chart.
  • Directs, supervises and evaluates nursing care provided to patients.
  • Assists physicians with special tests and procedures such as thoracentesis, lumbar tap, etc.
  • Participates in economical utilization of supplies and ensures that equipment is maintained in a clean and safe manner.
  • Ability to operate computer system for tasks including but not limited to admit, discharge, order entry, and document removal.
  • Participates in orientation of new personnel.
  • Establishes and maintains communication and utilizes teaching opportunities with patients, and other significant individuals as provided by Educational Services.
  • Assists with or institutes emergency measures for sudden adverse development in patients such as cardiac arrest.
  • Participates in the maintenance of a clean and safe environment. Follows standard precautions as prescribed in hospital policies/procedures.
  • Participates actively in committees for improvement of nursing care.
  • Consistently supports the compliance program and participates in ongoing monitoring of activities with respect to compliance related issues.
  • Keeps all patient information confidential and respects patients' privacy.
  • Communicates with patients, visitors, and staff in a courteous manner.
  • Observes, evaluates, and documents care given as well as the patients' physical and emotional condition, response to drugs or treatments, including side effects, desired response, and contraindications according to hospital policy/procedures.
  • Allocates time spent in the various areas of care daily when clocking out.
  • Attends staff meetings, in-services, workshops and seminars, other appropriate learning experiences, maintaining ongoing education to upgrade professional skills and ensure nursing licensure.
  • Activates fire or disaster plans in the event of actual fire, disaster, or drill.
  • Makes patient referrals to social service as needed.
  • Assures continuity of nursing care through such vehicles as shift report and nursing care plans.
  • Makes frequent rounds on patients to assess any changes in condition.
  • Informs immediate supervisor of needed supplies and equipment or malfunctioning equipment.
  • Maintains an attractive and comfortable environment for patients with special consideration to cleanliness of room.
  • Has ability to work with a variety of patients, regardless of various racial, ethnic or sociological background or disability.
  • May be assigned as staffing requires to all areas of care including Medical/Surgical, Skilled Care, ICU/CCU, Obstetrical, Nursery, Emergency Room, PAR, or OB Services in addition to above duties and responsibilities.
    Job Requirements
  • Minimum 2 years experience
  • ER Experience Required
  • Valid State of Nebraska Nursing license or compact license
  • Current BLS, ACLS, NALS, and PALS required
  • TNCC and NRP preferred
