Job Title: Clinical Nutrition Manager

Job Summary: The Clinical Nutrition Manager is responsible for overseeing the clinical nutrition services in a healthcare facility, ensuring that patients receive high-quality nutrition care in accordance with established medical, regulatory, and ethical guidelines. This role requires leadership in managing the clinical nutrition team, including dietitians and nutrition support staff, and ensuring the delivery of evidence-based nutrition interventions for patient care.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership & Supervision: Lead and manage the clinical nutrition team, providing guidance, mentorship, and support to ensure optimal performance and professional development.
  • Patient Care: Oversee the assessment, planning, and implementation of individualized nutrition care plans for patients. Ensure that clinical nutrition services are provided in alignment with patient needs, hospital protocols, and physician orders.
  • Nutrition Therapy & Interventions: Develop and manage nutrition protocols for various medical conditions, including but not limited to diabetes, renal failure, critical care, gastrointestinal disorders, and oncology. Ensure evidence-based practices in nutrition therapy.
  • Team Collaboration: Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure integrated patient care. Participate in interdisciplinary rounds to provide expertise on nutritional aspects of patient care.
  • Quality Control: Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of nutrition services and interventions. Ensure compliance with regulatory standards (e.g., Joint Commission, CMS) and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Education & Training: Provide education and training to healthcare staff and patients on nutrition-related topics. Develop educational materials and programs for both staff and patient populations.
  • Budget & Resource Management: Assist in managing the department's budget and resources, ensuring efficient and cost-effective nutrition services. Track expenditures related to nutrition supplies and services.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that clinical nutrition services adhere to applicable local, state, and federal regulations, and meet accreditation standards.
  • Research & Program Development: Stay updated on the latest nutrition research and trends. Implement new practices and programs that improve patient outcomes and clinical nutrition services.
  • Patient Advocacy: Advocate for patients' nutritional needs and preferences, ensuring that cultural, religious, and personal preferences are considered in care plans.
Qualifications:
  • Ability to successfully manage the clinical nutrition program
  • Function in their role providing 50% management and 50% clinical inpatient coverage.
  • Foster a culture of learning that promotes career growth and professional development.
  • Drive Performance Improvement and Quality Management projects.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Dietetics, Nutrition, or related field; Master's degree preferred.
  • Certification: Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) certification from the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) required. Board Certification in Nutrition Support (BCNSP) or other relevant certifications preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of clinical nutrition experience, with at least 2 years in a leadership or managerial role.
  • Skills:
  • Strong knowledge of clinical nutrition, medical nutrition therapy, and evidence-based practices.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage a team and collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
  • Familiarity with nutrition software and electronic health records (EHR).
  • Knowledge of regulatory standards and accreditation processes.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
